Got a letter in work the other day stateing we owe for a tv licence. We dont have a tv in work so the boss rang up about it
Turns out you have to have a tv licence if you watch bbc iplayer or 4od on the internet
Am i the only person who knows this? Haha

Thought a tv licence was for bbc1 only cause there don't have adverts during a show can't see why you would have to pay for watching the above

TV Licence is for all the BBC stuff, 1,2,3,4,HD, Radio, Online etc...

I think you only need one if your watching live tv including online, not stuff thats already been on....

You do not need a television licence to catch-up on television programmes in BBC iPlayer, only when you watch or record at the same time (or virtually the same time) as it is being broadcast or otherwise distributed to the public. In BBC iPlayer, this is through the Watch Live simulcast option.

It depends whats being watched, if its TV catchup, then you do not, but if its live TV, then obviously.

IMO people should have option. If I was given choice of losing BBC and saving 150 a year on tv license i would. Its annoying paying 60odd to sky then have to pay for a license on top

Just going off the flyers I got through the post when I moved into halls, specifically stated that if I was watching on something powered by its own batteries was fine but if I wanted to watch live tv or iplayer on a laptop or computer plugged into the wall id need my own licence.

When I rang them she said even if you have a phone that can watch the BBC on you need one, basically you just need one if you CAN watch TV. Whether you do or not. I said what if I play my Xbox and never watch TV she said I'd still need one, proper load of shit

It should.be redundant in this day and age. People should have a choice the.technology is there to restrict channels if you don't want to buy them

Most of the stuff I personally watch on TV are on channels that I pay a Sky subscription for, i.e. Discovery/History/Universal/Sky One etc.
The only time I normally watch a BBC channel is for regional news at teatime but even that is so shit I don't watch it all the time.
