Anyone been?
Im flying there a week on Fri with the mrs for a wee holiday. Plans to hire a car, spend a day each way in Milan and in between go to the lakes.
Ive booked the main accommodation.
Need to find somewhere in the city now for 2 nights.
Was thinking near the Piazza del Duomo ("Cathedral Square") as its meant to be best for shops and restaurants etc.
Not sure though, I know theres some proper rough areas around the city and dont want to be staying in the ghetto.

Yeah? Wheres nicest area to stay?
On the 1st night we arrive early evening so not bothered too much about that night as we'll be hitting the road quite early the following day.
On the way back however i'd like somewhere nice!!

On way back im wanting to stay in somewhere grand near the Duomo cathedral.

Was looking at - Hotel Spadari al Duomo for the return journey.
Gets a good review & is right on the main square.

Stayed here before the Milan Arsenal game in 08, lovely hotel and not too pricy (unless prices have gone right up since!)

Looks very traditional Italian decor there, not a bad thing.
Like the cars sat in the lobby

Did you bin that place I recommended then at Lake Como then? Thought you'd booked it.
I wasn't overly impressed with Milan tbh. But it was raining when I was there and a Sunday so some shops were shut.
Piazza del Duomo does seem to be the main area, and theres nice ice cream shops/restaurants and clothes shops around there.
We didn't stay in Milan so not sure about hotels.

regarding your thread before about car hire... ive just come back from spain were i hired a car for 10 days. i prepayed the car and insurance before i left here. when i got to the desk the nice lady took a deposit of €400 and €87 for fuel. the €400 was off the card for full 10 days i had the car. i'd imagine italy is the same.
so what i'm saying is bring extra cash!
