I picked the missus up from work yesterday, on the route home we passed a school.
Now as i was coming to a T junction a girl runs across the road, tripped over the central crossing with her scooter and face slams the road right in front of me.
My reaction instantly was to laugh, which i did.
But then i thought what if she did fall down in front of my tyre.
My impulse reaction would have been to brake, but if the van had locked and slid and dragged her face along the ground. Would she off been better off me running her over.
Bare in mind i carry 500kg plus the van weight.
This may seem weird, but the curiosity kills me.

if you were coming to a T junction you wouldnt/shouldnt of been going fast enough to lock up/skid if you saw the child before hand....

There would of been no way to avoid her. I always think the worst case.

go over her with the van, reverse go back over her again and then load the scooter into the van, off you go. should be sufficent.

just out of interest, why is there not a option for trying to avoid hitting her by swinging car into other lane? or onto pavement ect?

It was just before school kick out time. Cars parked either side of the road. Ita a van so no alloys to scuff. I would happily smash the van into the back of a parked car to miss a girl but that was not the question.

Stop creating weird scenarios where you run children over :/ lol.
And I think it'd be better to brake, there's always a chance she'd just take a very slight bump then. Also if you crush her head, she's dead anyway.
Slower speed impact to a vehichle will be less hospital treatment anyway.

Doing 25mph a few yards from a T junction, next to a school at home time where there are numerous places (parked cars lining the street) that children can rush out? Never heard of hazard perception? To top it off, laughing at a wee bairn who's just smashed their face off the road? What a lovely chap

Mainly because a bloke jumping out of a van to pick a 2-4 year old child up will more than likely not go down the right way.

Your missus was with you is no excuse. Laughing at a kid smashing her face off the road is a bit sick. I take it your not a parent then.
