What the fuck is going on nowadays, I understood Challenge 21 and to some extent the 25 policy but after the check out women being a cunt and not serving Kat with some kopperberg (even though she knows her and knows her age as they both worked together a few years back) I decided to nip the local "food and wine" shop round the corner from our house. They have decided to put up a Challenge 30, yes three zero ruling in place.

Working on a percentage basis, how many "kids" look over 25 FFS?

That hits the nail on the head for me.

We had about £80's worth of shopping, a baby in his silver cross carrier and car keys in hand. What "kid" would go to all that trouble for a few bottles of koppperberg?

I understand shops receive hefty fines for miss-selling but they should employee better staff if thats the case or run the wines and spirits on its own desk like the fags and have specialist people who have been on age identifying courses...
The police never have problems guessing ages.

if that's the case then there should be a ''challenge all'' policy and not just pick on a certain age group.

It annoys me when I'm out doing a weekly shop and have a bottle of wine or something and they Id me.

a few years ago when I was 19 ish (2008?), me and my brother (was about 26) went to a spar to get some beers and fags. I went up and got Id'd but they said they couldn't serve me because I wasn't 21. me and my bro questioned it and laughed so he stood where I was and they said they couldn't serve him either because although he was over 21, he was buying it for me. So although we were both of legal age and sober, neither of us could buy beer. all the shops in the area (segensworth) were in the on the scheme and it was only from 6pm Friday to 8am Monday. Was shocked.

iirc they can't legally refuse to serve you unless they think you're under 18 (if you've show them proper ID of course), as thats the law.

the law says nothing about being over 21. should have made a complaint mate.

Pretty sure they can refuse you a sale for any reason they see fit. They have no legal obligation to sell you anything iirc, might be wrong.

I've been refused the sale of cigarettes at the age of 32 as i had no id on me. i don't look under 16 or under 18. i was driving a works van at the time which i had just filled up with fuel. I've never ever been asked for id for cigarettes since the age of 14

Any licenced premis can refuse you if they wish. We don't even have to give a reason.

Everyone who holds a driving licence should have it on them so stop moaning.

Although challenge 30 is a piss take.

Welcome to 2012. A time when common sense no longer exists and we are ruled by a prick in an office somewhere making stupid rules up to "protect us" when really they just hinder us from getting on with things!

Course they can, whatever reason they want.

Its not the shop's fault, they're just trying to not get caught out.

Its the fault of whoever made it such a big government priority that penalises legitimate people wanting a drink and makes shop keepers shit scared of just doing their jobs.

If it helps, I laugh in the face of anyone who asks me like this --->

dont get this "Does the custo9mer look over 25" crap. I bought a dvd from tescos in self service the other day, was a 12 rating iirc, so the girl had to authorise it, on the screen popped up, "Does the customer clearly look over 25" for a 12? yeah ok

IIRC - I believe the actual individual gets the fine so staff pretty much play it on the safe side

Challenge 21 was a good idea. Would stop the good majority of youngs getting hold of stuff they 'shouldnt' have

Challenge 25 takes the piss

Challenge 30... WTF!

Youngs will get hold of beer, cigarettes, 18+ material etc from other means anyway

pew pew pew pewwwww

So they served you with fuel but not with cigarettes despite each having the same age restriction?

As for challenge 30, meh still probably won't get asked
