Halfords - really good for the money, plus life-time warranty (need to keep the receipt!!). Best waiting until xmas though as you can pick then up for cheap.

Sealey ones are good. Although if anything brakes they always seem to be a bit iffy to replace them.
Generation i think when he said no pro stuff he ment the likes of snap on, mac, blue point. That sort of thing
Hellfrauds pro socket set is about 100 near to christmas time and is absolutley brilliant. Did my xe conversion with just the hellfrauds set in my garage at home with a hellfrauds jack and axle stand kit aswell haha

Snap on / bluepoint do the blue/grey boxed sets of sockets. About 120 quid gets you a decent 3/8 set that will last you a life time or won't let you down. Same for 1/2 inch or 1/4 in

Draper are cheaper than snap on but still VERY good quality tools!

Also my dad got a good Draper socket set for about £70.

I've had a 1/2 inch Tengtools set for about 8 years now and it's been battered! Still perfect though

I've also done a few head changes and head gasket jobbies and other jobs using this draper set, didn't break when taking off head bolts, nor inlet manifold, oh, nor the exhaust manifold to exhaust bolts on the old 1.2 8v

Good luck with buying a brand, just don't buy cheap because then you have to buy twice.

Teng stuff is ok. I started with that and still have Alot of it. Alot better than dear draper.

Nothing looks better than opening a case of chrome snap on sockets. Looks like the crown jewels lol

The Halfords 120 is currently on offer

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_862443_langId_-1_categoryId_255215

Looks an OK set but I'd probably want some smaller 1/2" drives as well, sometimes I like going for smaller stuff with a big handle so you know its going to come off no hassle.

I've a draper kit (not a pro one) that's lasted me ages, and I do give it a lot of use/abuse. Have a snap on kit but it was absolutely megabucks. Halfords own is good stuff too, my Dad has a massive set in his Dad's garage but half of it is missing!

Not quite snap on stuff but it's a sister company with just as good quality. You'll still pay twice as much for the snap on equivalent though

Far better to buy seperate things. You wont use half of it, ie the imperial stuff.

Plus, 3/8 stuff isnt man enough for alot of work, even on cars.

It has a 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor so get a good breaker bar for tight stuff. All the Halfords stuff comes with AF.
