Would you go public?

I wouldn't. I wouldn't want people crawling out of the woodwork asking for handouts. I'd help out people close to me and donate to charity etc but I wouldn't go public.

Just tell them you sell fishing tackle on the side. Sounds legit IMO.

I wouldn't try and hide it, and I'd tell people if they asked. But I wouldn't go public and appear in the papers etc.

I could troll people through the tv

No for the exact same reasons as you james.

Most of my extended family already claim all sorts of benefits (mums side) so I can only imagine they'd come sniffing round me for some monies.

Seriously though, no. I'd keep quiet but I'm sure it would get out.

People would try and kidnap your family and shit, I'm sure.

I'd throw a massive party but I'd be sitting on a throne at the front wearing nothing but a crown and folk would queue up to kneel at my feet and grovel for money.

Not a chance, nor would I donate to charity

I'd let a few close friends know, the ones that would wonder how I got funding to open x business or start renovating houses, but other than that I'd keep it quiet

Don't know what I'd do. Lottery would probably advise you about the pros and cons of going public.

but you will always get found out (im assuming we are talking significant funds here, no-one cares about a poxy few million here or there)

much better to get camelot assistance and just get it out of the way during the initial euphoria. noone cares after a short while, case in point those 2 big fat scots who won £100m+ last year - who GAF about them now??

I have reasons. If I was giving considerable amounts of money to a charity I would have to join the board of trustee's and make sure its being spent in the right way

I couldn't tell anyone. Family would be like fucking parasites.

I'd have a "successful" tinterweb business to cover the fact I was minted.

If I won some mega amount I'd pick some poor unsuspecting waitress or binman or summat with a pure shit job/life and give them a million quid. Make me feel good about myself...

Is it true that you get taxed for any money you give away as a gift?

It's one thing people in the local area knowing by word of mouth or just by asking you, that wouldn't bother me at all. It's having charities from all over the country/world pestering you or people with ill children at the other of the country writing you letters asking for money to send their child to America for treatment that would get really really tiring. I bet you get bombarded with that kind of thing when you go public

I wouldn't, I would work up to the point where the money hit my bank account without telling a soul, I'd probably even work my notice period; then I'd 'go on holiday' with the missus, having paid the mortgage off on both of our current properties and not come back until I felt like it.
