Another story on the same bulletin, Mark Chapman who killed John Lennon has been refused parole and will remain in jail. Quite a stark contrast I thought.

Just to add before the CS pedants wade in they can keep him in jail over the 21 years if he is deemed to still be a danger, 21 years is the longest sentence they could pass.

Don't think he will, a guy who murdered 77 people is going to do just fine with a bit of prison rivalry i would of thought

He is perfectly sane as far is the law is concerned, he knew exactly what he was doing, knew it was illegal but still wanted to make his point.

He'll probably spend the rest of his life locked up - he thinks what he did was right and necessary and I doubt he'll change his mind in a hurry.

Apparently wanted to be found sane, and jailed, smirked when the sentence was read out. He's going to be jailed in a seperate complex to the rest of the prisoners so he'll be fine in there.

21 years is crazy, but if that's the maximum they could give then not much else they can do really

I'm absolutely sickened by the sentence. 21 years for killing 77 people and wounding more than 240

What sort of justice system if that were you can only give out a maximum of 21 years for the murder of 77 innocent people!

People convicted in such examples (i.e. 100% guilty, no doubt about it) should be stoned to death.

How does that sentence deter others from doing a similar act?

He wanted to be labeled sane so that it didn't devalue the message he was trying to get across didn't he?

For me they should use these people to do tests on that would benefit the rest if society. Cancer drugs etc.

If I was relative of one of his victims, I'd hoping he'd get out in 5 years and serve him the sentence that he truly deserved!

They've just said that they have no life sentence in Norway, so that was the maximum. But they can keep in him indefinitely when his sentence ends if they consider him a threat still.

So I think its safe to say he won't be released

He was convicted of terrorism and premeditated murder, and given the maximum sentence of 21 years' imprisonment.

However, that can be prolonged at a later date if he is deemed to remain a danger to society.

Waste of time and money tbh.

He was caught doing it, should have had a 9mm to the back of his neck instantly and saved all this public money and spent it on funeral costs for all those involved and a memorial, rather than keeping him alive to appease some left wing nut jobs.
