Just seen this on twitter.
http://gadgetshow.channel5.com/gadget-show/gadget-news/ipad-mini-october-release-will-beat-microsoft-surface-to-shops
If this is true, I'm a little confused they didn't announce this last week along with the iPhone 5

Really? No chance they'd introduce a brand new product alongside the iPhone..

This will be the next nail in their coffin, terrible brand dilution.

Yeah, I find it a bit weird too, but a part of me wouldn't be too surprised if apple does pull a stunt like that before Xmas.
However I also dont believe they would go through another boring keynote to announce this while they have already done one last week.

They can just put a slightly bigger screen on the iphone, no extra development, loads more cash, not apples MO until now though.

Im not 100% sure this will ever come to light.
On the one hand Steve left the company with strict instructions and he's always been very against a smaller iPad, but on the other hand, theres normally no smoke without fire.
The thing to bare in mind, they'll have hundreds of prototype mini iPads for testing, its pretty obvious they would have looked into it.
As Chrissy said, they wouldnt make two big product launches together, its not their thing.

i'm not sure where it sits price point wise.
ipod touch £170(4th) - £250(5th)
ipad 2 £329
ipad £400
think the rumours are wrong personally

it would have to be £290 and would probably then have to be same spec as an ipad 2, so then probably wouldnt sell

I think they will probably sell quite well. Its been shown by market analysis that there is 3 market sectors
Mobile Phones
Small Tablets
Large Tablets.
Those who want a bit iPad sized tablet typically have no interest in buying a smaller device but there are many people who want something to carry on the train etc that don't want something as big as an iPad but find a mobile way too small..thus the 7" device market.
The price point is going to be the interesting one. I can see it being very similar to the iPad2 price point

Let's be honest Ash, if they brought out a painted bit of shit you would like the route they were going down
Anodised black looks good at first but look how bad the iPhones are, imagine that on a laptop being carried about, would look terrible after a week.

I had an anodised red case on my 1st gen. iPhone for the last 12 month it was in use. Besides a corner where it landed on asphalt, none of the surface scratches on it has gone through the colour. Same story with a mates black one.
All the silver MacBook's are anodised too. Mine doesn't have shiny scratches all over it. Or any at all.
There's no question that there's a fault in the anodisation on the iPhones. It should have been much stronger.
As with the antenna on the 4 Apple will however refuse this fact and fix it for the S model.
I suspect a black iPad will have a much stronger layer than the phone. A black MacBook would too.

Surely it won't cost £350 for a mini.
That would make it £50 off from the full iPad, and people shouldn't be stupid enough to buy the mini when they can get for the bigger ipad.
Surely the whole point of the mini ipad is to make it price frendly !

And even if they make it the same price as an iPod, I bet poeple withh still buy ipod because they are small enough to fit in your pocket. While the ipad mini will have a bigger and better screen than the iphone/ipod for web pages/reading/gaming....or whatever poeople will be buying them for.

I will be tempted to buy one if/when they come out. Current iPads are too big!
