cleaned the car at the weekend and saw that the tailpipes were caked in black.
cleaned them up as best i could but couldn't shift most of it. i was using autosol, a microfibre cloth and elbow grease.
would it be ok to use one of of these, or would it be too harsh and scratch the chrome finish?

I'd try a scourer on the back of a sponge first

Personally think that would scratch them up bud but depending on how harsh they are they could be polished back up! Ive got burnt plastic on mine and it wont come off with polish but didnt want to use one of these!

I used 1200 grit wet and dry then 2500 grit then a microfiber. Looks brandnew.

I use a scourer like the one pictured on my tailpipes - they come out fine without damage

Use the peel of an Orange. That's what I use anyway and it works wonders.

I've got some fine grade steel wool which I've used with Autosol on it before. It needs shining up with Autosol on a microfibre afterwards, but it works well.

Probably because of the acidity.
