A lot of the jobs I'm looking at in the Marine Industry require an engineering degree and Prince2; I've had a look at the Foundation and practitioner details online and from what I can see it is straightforward enough, learn at distance and then take the final exams.
Anyone have any experience of or recomendations if I decided to do it?

Despite this thread going massively off-topic as I was accused of all sorts of shenanigans, there is actually some good info in here:

You can basically stop reading after page 1.
I intend to do my PRINCE2 early next year (company won't pay for it until I complete my probation which is in January). I think it's quite valuable, a lot of places ask for it.

I would be doing it off my own back; its of no benefit to my current role; its more that it could open doors in the future.
I've seen wildly different costs from £630 for the two courses to well over £2000. What are the realistic fees?

I was looking at this place:

Does seem suspiciously cheap, perhaps do some research first.

5 Days doesnt sound very long, how in depth is this course?
The two exams are multiple choice IIRC?

5 days is standard for PRINCE2 IIRC. You can do foundation in not much more than a day, then the rest is for practitioner.

What sort of things does it cover?
Did anyone fail?

Foundation is supposed to be very easy.
Practitioner is quite a bit harder but I don't know anyone that failed.

I'm on one course at the moment with CUPE (would really recommend them), the foundation isn't too hard at all, Practitioner is difficult if you don't work with these methods day in day out. Nervous about tomorrow actually.

Well done.
Now prepare to forget all knowledge gained as no where seems to bother with actually using the methodology

Fair enough but my age is a major factor that holds me back when going for jobs so as many quals as possible on the CV is a good thing!

Age has nothing to do it with it pow, if you can prove your good and you knowledge shows and projects you've been in are good, age will not come into it.

I dont think age comes into play nowadays, as its already been said.
I'm a PM and most of my daily comms is via email and Lync to remote teams across Europe, so think 70% of my team wouldnt even know what I looked like, nevermind how old I am lol

Of course age comes into it, 40 year old interviewers look at me and think 'boy'. Been told I'm too young for a role a couple of times.

Too young or too inexperienced? If they said you are too young, you can sue them.

age and experience are too different things
sounds like you're getting rejected because you dont have enough experience! Why dont you try and work your way up like everyone else
any one can pass a course.. but it doesnt mean jack shit on your CV unless you have experience.
If you don't have experience, then apply for a junior PM position or a role which will enable you to beef up your credentials.
age doesnt hold people back... whereas experience does!

Prince2 is soon going to be like a degree. Everyone will have it and become fairly pointless.
Few done it in our IT team and some of them can't manage to make a brew let alone manage a project.

Anyone who works in a company who pays for qualifications will have it. Should see the list of certifications a guy from Dell had in his email signature the other day.
