Im potentially looking to go back to 1 car next year but would want something fun to drive.
Only criteria really are;
6k max
nothing silly MPG wise, around 30mpg on a run
fairly practical in terms of space (no VX220s)

Either Eck
John, been told by a renault specialist to avoid the 225, only have the R26, which is out of budget

I think the trophy, which will be in budget might have the LSD, sure a more knowledgable renault fan will be in soon.
You can get an R26 for that btw, not the best pick obviously.

a performance hatch seems your best bet.
i'd probably choose a mk1 focus rs out of eck's suggestions if you want something fun.
all the others are lardy or a bit boring.

The mk1 rs is a nice car but they suffer badly from rust so have a good poke about. I've always wanted one and 2 of my mates have very nice examples but I just couldn't bring myself to fork out £8k plus for a nice one as there's better cars out there for that kind of money lol. They only come with 5sp gearboxes as well which is bloody strange.

Not really strange, its a small hatchback with an LSD and ferocious power delivery. Not a refined motorway slogger.
RS would be my vote as unless you needed the above style of vehicle, doubt you could better it and it will hold value.
The R26 is a brilliant shout but will halve in value every 6months.

I trawled through loads of threads on RSOC about them when I was thinkin of buying one and there sooooo bad for rust unfortunately.
I just couldn't get used to only having 5 gears lol. My mate says that when he sits at motorway speeds he's just on boost and it drinks the fuel because of this.

Tuning potential on the rest of hot hatches is much better too btw.

Can remember being in a Mk1 FRS, with exhaust mods, Bluefin map etc, and some other bits. Wen't very well, but after about 10mins of boost, it seemed to get pretty laggy and didn't feel as quick. Like it was suffering from some sort of heat soak.
Nice enough cars, but for the money they go for, i don't think i would have 1. Just don't seem to be £6k better than say an ST170. Really just paying for the RS badge. As an investment, yes they might be a good choice, but then again, i can't imagine them having a massive following thus making it harder to sell.

They have a HUGE following lol. Have a look on RSOC.
They also are a lot better than the st170. Wider wrc arches, brembo brakes, lsd, the list goes on.

Just paying for the RS badge.
It's voted one of the best FWD hatches ever made
I suppose it being a Ford of that era, rust shouldn't suprise me but makes me sad
Would LOVE an RS. If I was a bi better off I'd buy it as a "daily"

But are they £6k better??
Not like a 106 GTi is £6k better than a a 1.1i Zest 2.
Or an EP3 isn't £6k better than a 1.6i Civic Sport.
Exact same scenario. Top spec sports model vs slightly lower spec model. Except im comparing the RS against the next best sports model. So therefor imo, its not £6k better, its the badge you are paying for.

The 330 Clubsport keeps popping up in my searches. With a set of coilovers, a decent geo set up, some decent seats, it would be great on track too

6k could get you a K20'd EK9. Pretty decent mpg and with 240-260 (none are standard due to needing a new exhaust system etc to work) you'll have a very very quick, brilliantly capable and reliable car. I am in no way biased towards Honda.

Integra DC2, you'd probably get a very nice 98 spec import for that money now. Not particularly roomy in the back but fine for 2 people on a short run. Fold the seats down and there's actually quite alot of space due to a decent sixed boot
UK ones are 190ish bhp, imports are 200ish bhp but weigh somewhere between 1050kgs and 1150kgs depending on specs. I got 38mpg to the gallon on a 300 mile motorway run. Usually averaged high 20s low 30s. Really really nice handling and reliable, mine never skipped beat and i mean never. Also a very nice noise at nearly 9000 rpm
i got a minter UK one with 46,000 miles for less than 6k afew years ago, i think i still miss it
