Liked it, I also watched documentaries on AF447 and the 9/11 tapes. Didn't realised Channel 4 were so on it.

Good TV. Except for a million Persil adverts.

Yeh i watched that AF447 program.

Rather watch factual programs over x-factor or eastenders etc.

Nah they don't, know one actually watches Top Gear for its technical content anymore.

The documentary on that Air France flight was awesome, was a little upsetting to watch though.

the last moments in the cockpit when the pilots realised they were going to crash

I wonder how aware the passengers were?

Depends if the pilots announced the problem.

Found it weird when they found part of the aircraft at the bottom of the sea with all the passengers still strapped into their seats

Did you watch the documentary? I am pretty sure that they did not announce the problem as they spent those 4 minutes or so not really knowing what the problem was until it was too late.

I did watch it but cant recall them announcing any problem at all to the passengers or cabin crew

Airbus A330 bound for Paris CDG from Rio De Janeiro in june 2009.

Instruments were giving incorrect readouts due to icing outside the aircraft which caused the pilots to put the aircraft into an unnessery stall (even though airbus's are near enough impossible to stall due to a fly-by wire system)

Crashed into the sea without any warning to controllers or anyone onboard

Who survived then? I was on the back of the plane and was ok. Scary that first class people get crushed along with pilots.

i only caught the end, just before it crashed. looked pretty good, although i felt a bit strange watching it. i know it was staged, but to think that happens in real life is a chilling thought.

very chilling.

The dialogue was real as captured by the flight recorders in cockpit.

I am not an avionics expert but remember that the pilot in the right seat had the stick permanently in a back position. The pilot in the left seat could not see this and was making control inputs of his own. They only realised shortly before the crash.

They said in the documentary this would not happen in a boeing plane because you can see the stick/yoke inputs as they are mirrored?

That is correct. Although i think in Airbus's system once one control is being moved (called sidesticks in these) the other will not give any input.

Sounds like some of you would enjoy watching Air Crash Investigation on NatGeo. I've watched it for years. Some really interesting* stuff

*usually a sad outcome though, and it's amazing how many of these "accidents" are caused by cutting corners due to cost.

All 5 or 6 series are available on good torrent sites
