1 of the front springs on my car is broken but it still seats fine, about an inch is broken off at the end.
Will it pass an MOT like that or will it be an automatic fail? Just its booked in for MOT next week and don;t have time to sort it.

being honest, I would hope it fails... it's quite a dangerous this to have it not fully functioning.

If its seating fine and not noticeable then it will more than likely be fine. Not as if they measure them.
Its not dangerous either.

Its not dangerous at all or I would've fixed it before now, its not as if its hanging out the wat=y I've seen some. Only about an inch has broken of and its seating fine.

Yea I thought that but it is noticeable if your looking for it as its broke at an angle and is rough. Will just have to chance it.
I have a set of 60mm springs here but I don't know if they will pass on standard shocks?

SHOULD be ok I think, beginning of this year they made it no longer a fail as long as it still seats ok I think. Don't take my word for it as I'm not 100% sure though.

How do they check? just jack it up and have a look? they told me one of mine was snapped once so I had it replaced and the side I replaced was forever higher than the other, turns out they were both snapped but they never noticed (Corsa C springs are made of cheese)

It's not dangerous really. Common problem on z4's are snapped rear springs and you don't notice until you have a look at them.

It's a fail, broken spring. Unless the tester is blind it's a fail.

My Cav recently passed with 60mm fronts with standard shocks, and I know my Corsa did in the past too. Not sure about the Astra though. If I was you i'd change the front springs to the 60mm ones and see if they still fit tight. Or if its a pain in the arse to do I'd just chance my arm with the broken one. What test centre you going to?

The Astra is sold now mate, a lad out your way bought her actually so you might see her about
Its a 306 Dturbo and I know the MOT boys hate them over here due to the cunts who have given them a bad name with cutting springs, lowering 20 nicks and 50 turns of the pump I'll be taking her to Coleraine more than likely, they weren't hard on me with the Corsa, let me off with a few things.

Aye they're never as bad as yout think they will be, although I've never tried Coleraine, and as you say Dturbos have some reputation lol
Will keep an eye out for Astra then mate, would be good to see it

When I sold it it had an electrical fault as the battery kept draining but the alternator was charging fine. I had numerous people have a look at it and no one could find out what was wrong, must still be giving the same hassle

Where it was sitting it looked more like it was one of the workers cars, and a nice Vectra estate used to sit in the same spot, but wasn't there anymore. So may not have been there to get worked on.
