It was inevitable. Places like Comet and Currys just can't compete on price.
Even places like Richer Sounds and John Lewis are more competitive these days.

hardly surprising.
Argos will be next, mark my words.
Customers will generally shop one of 2 ways, down in the high street because they want to see / review the product before they buy or online because its cheaper. Argos doesn't fall into either of those categories.

Argos are already in trouble iirc, they've just opened a new store on the retail park up here as well

thats the problem the high streets are so fucked.
Soon there wont be any high street shops for them to go and test/review it first

Only.recently bought a delonghi gas hob from.comet
hate the closing down sales though, it brings out all the scum who go in to find bargains, but if nothings there for them they trash the place.
Same thing happened at best buy.

I think in a few years to come, you'll only find the TVs in your local Tescos/Sainsburys etc

Plus side of Argos is that you can order online and collect within half an hour. They already said they're killing the catalogue though

You probably aren't paying them monthly, you'll be paying a finance company.

Apparently the reason was they was selling up to another investor, this has then scared the banks who has withdrawn loaning them money. Most likely close and open following day as a new company

Used to work part time at Comet when I was at Uni about 8-9 years ago. Was there for 3 years and still really good mates who still work there - well thats all about to chance
They raise eyebrow about 2 years ago with a change of business strategy, and they also commented on how sales has become soooo difficult. They started to lay of people and last year said that they wouldnt be suprised to see Comet going into Administration
Currys must be to hear about this as Comet used to be their main rivals with both companies normally having stores on the same retail park.
Doubt there would be much of a closing down sale. Most of the stores dont carry that much stock, so you'll probably be looking at buying ex-display. Would assume the stock within the warehouse would be sold off to a competitor or send back to the suppliers???
oh well... sad to see Comet go but... it wasnt much of a shock
pew pew pew pewwwww
