Who has a local council who has been switching them off?
Ours had been but a few weeks back we got a letter saying they were replacing the bulbs with energy efficient ones, they've started doing it and our road was done yesterday.
The bonus is, as they are so efficient, they've put ALL the lights back on, so you can actually see where you're going at night, you wouldn't believe the difference it makes after a long period of it being dark.
Hopefully other local authorities will follow suit as a lot of them don't seem to have thought about which lights to switch off, some of them have been switched off in dangerous places IMO.

dont mind them off on the motorway, that makes sense, Id be pissed off if they turned them off where I live now because its rough as fuck.
My own house is dark at night but its semi rural so its ok. they should all have energy saving bulbs in them by now anyway

That's what I mean, dual carriageway, motorway etc I'd fine, they were off in a residential area though, people parked along both sides of the road and you could hardly see before

I live on a rough council estate and they've turned em off round here - its not nice!! I had to catch a flight at 5am and left my house 3am it was quite scary and IMO will invite crime - makes car/house theft that little bit easier

Was done a few months back round my way and they do light up the street & roads much better than those horrid yellow ones.

They've swapped all ours for LEDs, they're much brighter than the old ones. Makes sense really, must be some massive savings to be made.

All off in my town, apart from junctions. Normally after 11pm

All the rough areas near me now have LEDs but we're still stuck with the old yellow efforts. Slums are better lit now :/

my dads road has just had the led ones installed and imo they are far too bright. yes they light up the roads and paths better but they also light up your house at night.

I have one over the road Ben, about 30ft from my door, it's not lighting up my living room.

Shields? They just seem like a normal pointy down galvanised steel street light

these ones were just a bright white light shining down at first, which made it look like daylight outside, so the council put up some covers below the bulb so the light spread better and wasn't as bright.
