I think the deterrent at the top level is that you might end up losing your star player for a game or more. The club can still fine internally. A lot of clubs do, and they tend to send the fine to charity.

Maybe he went under the radar with it, and is worrying at night about the potential £8.00 fine that could creep up on him?
