I love the Alfa but when the temperature drops I seem to spend a lot of time fighting the temperature gauge and my climate control! When it's 3 degrees or lower, having the heater on Auto stops the car from warming up and also manages to take temperature off the gauge! Sooo annoying!

That's not a bad idea you know, don't BMW's do that with flaps?

see alot of cars with plates over the grill, either metal or cardboard
the porsche gives heat inside the car within a couple of mins as it comes from exhaust heat.
the engine always keeps at a good temp
so your answer is get a porsche
ive always fund diesels terrible at keeping heat at the engine and inside

My xe was terrible for this. If it was even slightly cold would struggle to get to temp and the motorway it would be just over the minimum mark which ment only slightly warm air from the heaters. The focus is great only takes a minute to start getting warm. Heated windscreen also is great for this weather

My van gets hot inside very quick but sometimes it does take a while to get the engine temp up.
Car does both in no time, in fact if you open the bonnet the engine bay is scary hot.

A lot of Land Rover Defenders have something covering the grill in winter. I drive a Land Rover on the farm and it seems to take a long time for the heaters to put any heat out but when they do it has no problem keeping up to temperature. And that's without the grill covered over.

My brother has a TD5 Defender, engine gets up to temp ok but the heaters are next to useless.

Must be too much friction in your pistons imo

I do but I don't want to fuck the engine by running it at 3k+rpm when it's cold

I do my first 5+ miles only pressing the heated front screen button (blowers on the screen on HI temp, AC on, blowers full) when I physically can't see though it. Then when it's clear enough to see it goes straight off
