does anyone know much about them ?? looking at something like this for something to play with , got the mondeo for school run and pajero for work . so im not arsed about fuel consumption etc .
this one says its the 173 bhp model i thought some were 150bhp roughly ?? any one know which ones are which.

That will be a 168bhp one I do believe.
IIRC, there was a 118bhp one, the standard 173bhp and the later one at 168bhp due to emissions. Although they later did a 200bhp one with VVT.
Then you have the turbo.
Awesome cars though, I lloved mine. Handling is amazing.
Power is good.
If you are not fussed over economy, save for a turbo
Also, non interference engine, so if the cambelt snaps it is not a big deal

Car in the link will be the 173bhp version.
With the 3SGE engine, the Rev 2 got the 158bhp motor, Rev 3 had the 173bhp motor, and Rev 4+ had the 168bhp motor with the emission control shit.
Beams engined MR2's (Rev5 iirc) are quite rare and go for quite a bit more.
Don't be put off by the power levels though, as on the road they will be pretty evenly matched. Rev 2 are lighter than the higher powered Rev 3, so the lower weight makes them pretty much neck and neck. BEAMS engined 5 might be quicker though.
I had a Rev 2 and loved it. Drive great, nice low down driving position, feels like a proper sports car. With an exhaust and filter, you will probably never listen to the radio. Not through choice, but mainly because the noise is right behind your lug.lol.

If you go for a T Bar watch for a leaking roof. The rubber seals can perish.

cool mate cheers , so i should check for damp inside the car , it would be going on a diet as well, so sound proofing out and a few other bits of stuff that it doesnt need to be there would be going.

No just pour some water over the t bar roof. Hosepipe would be best.

Sticky or seized calipers are common. The seals in the pistons go.

Had one last summer, was a great car, shouldn't have sold it. Noise is amazing with engine just behind your head!
Mine was a tin top with no pas, door bars etc. sticky calipers were a mare, it had two brand new ones on the back, been stood 3mth, drove it away and had loads of smoke coming out of it, thought it was on fire. Turned out to be calipers stuck on. Few sharp brakes and all fixed.
Deffo worth a go, avoid the mk1, worst car I've owned.

Great cars, deffo have another. Actually tracing my old one as its out of tax so see if I can get it back.

Doubt you'd get another for that. Have a Deek under it though. Can get decent insurance on the older ones too.
I wonder what offers have been rejected on that one, if they'd take much less?

It has all the turbo bits - tobledone indicators, square plate (import) and raised vents on the lid.
Looks well.

I've got a Rev3 2.0GT n/a now as a daily, T-Bar aswell.
T-Bar leaks are the most common, but theres 2 or 3 easy fixes for them that wont cost you £400 (for new seals)
Rev3 3S-GE Engines (UK Models) are the 174bhp engines, earlier Rev's were the 150bhp 3S-GE and 3S-FE. Jap imports were 165-ish bhp 3S-GE's
They're fun, they do seem to eat rear tyres for fun though, possibly down to driving style.
I hoon it about most times, everywhere, and get around 18-22mpg. If I try really really hard I can get around 24mpg out of it. MPG isn't their strong point.
RE: Rust, yeh, sills mainly, and top of the windscreen surround.
Knocks from the rear, droplinks.
Tis about it really, other than that, slap a filter on and a manifold andexhaust and it livens right up. About £400 in bits and you'll have a nice mr2.
Wheels can get expensive due to staggered width and different offset front and rear.
