I have been looking at getting a bike, wanted one for years and then decided to finally book my direct access course and sort a bike.

Narrowed it down to wanting an R6 or a CBR600RR...

I love the R6 but I personally aren't a fan of them in the blue(probably because too common) so I wanted one in Red/Black or Black. This one come up at my local Yamaha Main Dealer so I took a pop on down and fell in love!

Put a deposit down and will pick her up in a couple of weeks!!!

Don't know much about bikes, but it looks mean.

Good thing it's not plastered with stickers and decals.

Im doing an extra day training and they have said unless you are dangerous on the road then you will be fine.

Will look nice in the front room if I fail though I guess

I thought about a 125 but fuck all point, by time I buy the bike, insure it etc to only have it a few months and sell it on.

DAS Course is on 21,22,23,24 and test on 25th this month John

What's your insurance like on it?

When I passed my test at the ripe age of 22, a CBR600RR was £1800TPF&T

Very nice, but when it comes to R6's/R1's etc, they need to be blue for me.

I would say a 600 is probably a good choice for a 1st bike. Plenty fast enough to build up the confidence etc, and end of the day, you control the throttle so will only go as fast as you feel comfortable with.

I think your a bit crazy to get on an R6 as your first big bike, do you have a lot of experience on smaller bikes in the past ?

I booked my test recently, it's really much stricter then it used to be, since about July 2012 there are all new rules in place.
Only bike I've been looking at is an SV650, 75bhp, vtwin and much more forgiving then an R6.

Don't buy black gear to match the bike, you wont been seen very well in the darkness

Good luck anyway dude

I've had a few 50's and 125's but all years ago.

Doing/done 5 days training all on near enough brand new Suzuki GSR600 which is approx 95hp so not too far off the r6 and won't be a crazy jump I don't feel

I got a CBR600RR for my first bike (bought it before taking test like you have), didn't have a huge amount of experience on other bikes, had a 125 while doing my lessons etc, but it didn't get a lot of use and the 600 was a great first proper bike in my opinion. Just take it easy and don't go nuts and you'll be fine.

Love it, I've been looking at these as well,

Good luck with your test,

600 sports bike is a perfect first bike,
I jumped straight on a gsxr600 when I passed, still got it now, only go as fast as you roll that throttle.

You control the bike and speed, not like its some super machine that will go all balls out top speed soon as you jump on the thing.

Wouldn't have got an R6, awful powerband for the road, its like v-tec, it needs the revs sitting at the top but once there its like poop off a shovel. Top speed is fantastic for a 600, a true 170mph, it'll outpace my bike top end :S

Stay sensible, learn it, and if I were you, book a novice trackday earlier rather than later. You'll learn the bike much better and will be far more prepared for the road. If not, be weary, licenses dont get points, they get banned on these things A CBR/GSXR has got more mid range power and not so much all out top end bhp and revs. Still, the things bloody tiny and you can really throw it about.

Someone said about an SV, great first bike
