Currently looking into the Vectra 1.9CDTi's. In particular the 150 brake.

I'm a after a cheap ish one circa 2k and most seem to be around 90-100k which doesn't really bother me if it's been looked after. What I keep reading is that at 100k all sorts start failing on them. Anyone had any first hand experience of this car or the engine?

Sounds daft but a local 525i has also caught my eye as it's had loads spent on it FSH etc just can't shake off the want to own an Auto Beemer MPG is bound to be around 20-25 around town though which I need to avoid. Thinking here about future big bills and surely a well cared for 5 series will have less go wrong than a 100k Vectra? I know a great BMW specialist too that doesn't charge the earth which helps.

I know I know

Thing is there both similar size/price/mileage but obviously will be different when something goes wrong. Heard the 5 series, other than some common problems, is one of the best cheap cars you can buy.

Forget the Vectra, utterly boring car.

Anyone who has any interest in cars has no business owning one, you would be wanting to sell straight away. What's up with the skoda?

There's nothing wrong with the Skoda Ian, just not good on MPG with the short journeys I do it's far too nice a car to just use for work so getting something cheaper that I don't mind getting dirty etc. It's a shame though as I did a long motorway journey last week and got 390 miles out of a tank which isn't bad. Just town driving doesn't seem too good.

I'm thinking the same about the Vectra now

Yeah I remember an auto box going on a mates X3 and it was Thing is if it did let go I'd just strip as sell the bits and buy something else at that money.

The face lifted Vectras can be had for not much more so I could wait for a bargain I suppose

I recently got myself a vectra 1.9 150 as you stated..

100k+ 2,500 facelift too! Remapped to 190bhp, could easily go more if you don't like flywheels i imagine. Parts are cheap and lot of modifications available with there being a vxr version with bits that just bolts on.

This. Non M Sport E39's look shit. I would have a Vectra SRi over 1 anyday just on looks alone.

Surely a slush boxed 525i will be worse than the Skoda though on fuel.

I've heard there pretty good in fuel considering. The whole big engine thing means the engine doesn't get it's neck wrung out so keeps the MPG reasonable. Watching a few Sports in EBay now and they look so much sweeter

Nah he's an ex fire fighter, drives sensibly but knows how to drive the car. Round town he's always around 30, when we went up to the lakes he was getting 42 out of it. We were convoying along about 80-85 most of the way. Done 160k too.

Problem is that engine is too small for the car, big engine working lazy gives the same MPG.

The 525i/528i/530i all give similar MPG so I've been advised to just go for the 530 but the tax rises with it. 528i sport seems the perfect choice.

The point of the auto is that I just want to waft around on my short journeys insted of changing gear every 2 seconds

528 wil be older though no facelift
Unless you do it yourself which is still quite costly for a old car

You cant beat the 3.0 in any bmw its a brillaint engine tax rises whats the rate of a 528?
My 530 was 146 i think for 6 months
