Looking into getting a slightly shortened front number plate for a 6 chanarcter plate so X11 XXX; got a few questions...

- Are they legal?
- Where can I get them from?

I want something like Eck has on his Leon

The plate can be any size, as long as the digits are the legal size with the correct spacing.

Glad this has popped up, I'm after the same. Yes they are legal but not sure what the correct size is for a 6 digit plate.

Providing the font is legit, you need only a 11mm border around each letter or number.

My 7digit plate for example is perfectly legit, and could obviously be shorter if I had a 6 or 5 digit plate:

Most the cars in the family have shortened front plates.

You just need to make sure there is an 11mm gap between the edge of the letters and the end of the plate.

My dad just makes his himself by cutting the plates down and rounding the corners with sandpaper. Easy job.

Don't like them myself. Look odd with the small surround. Much prefer a 3/4 size one. Illegal but look better cos every things in proportion.

Great thanks; where's best to order one from; as if its cut down it removes the legal stamps so would rather buy one and get it done fully legal

They were never there to make the picture better Just to be a part of the family fleet picture.
And it's a Leon. Shame on you for not knowing that. Also, it's a 225 LCR, so it doesn't ruin the picture as much as the passat

No, it's not the W8. It's the 2.8 V6 4Motion. It's amazing in the snow. Proper 4WD system like the old audi Quattros. None of this haldex shit.

One would assume JYA is his dads initials or something along those lines.

Had one on my Corsa for years, normal plates cut down with a hacksaw and filed smooth.

Absolutely nothing.

My dad got 111 JYA probably about 30 years ago. One day he spotted H1 JYA so he bought it. Then when he bought the RS500 he wanted a similar plate so he found C1 JYA. He kinda liked the fact that one is like HIYA and the other is C YA.
The AEZ 5112 and ACZ 1152 are just cheap northern Irish numbers that are kinda similar.

His initials are JA. I think he liked the plate more because it was short and different rather than featuring 2 of his initials.

I wouldn't like to run a W8. The V6 is bad enough on fuel
