Hey everyone

As above really looking at buying a Torque Wrench, what ebay one's like?

Really don't want to be paying big money and being ripped off tbh!

I have 2 got a snap on tech angle and a norbar click type wich is an excellent torque wrench and I think can be picked up for about £50

thanks lads. I just can't see the point it paying for snap on or mac tools ect...fucking rip off and tbh i bet someing half the price would do the job just aswell. I could understand maybe if it was to be geting used day in day out.

Halfords professional one is good and is £70 with trade card (or maybe £70 full price and even cheaper with trade) buts its definately below £90. Unsure how expensive the ebay ones your looking at are

Even £70 is way to much for me tbh

all my over stuff is halfords professional,ebay ones are about £20/40 ish

I got a Clarke one for 30 something from machine mart.

Not measured its calibration but its stood up to a beating... its my longest wrench so got used for smacking some stuck bolts.

Snapped the extension bar it came with though

defo not! I love spending loafs of money on tools but not on something am not goIng to use every day.

You don't have to buy snap on or mac for it to be decent. I have got a selection of blue point tools but I've got a draper torque wrench which does the job lovely. Only about £40

i have got one now in a sale and used a mate's trade card to so it went from £62 to about £35 ish really happy with it.

spot on,i torgued up my inlet,cam caps,head ect then my mate checked them with his £215 snap on one...he seems a bit gutted tbh.

really it was about £60 but i found one in the sale so not to bad. tbh i think snap on ect are a rip off all it is the WOW of haveing snap on, alot of the time tool's half the price will do the same job.

98% of my stuff is snap on its not wow factor it's the fact that if I break something it get replaced with minimum of fuss

yeah the same as halfords stuff..only half the price. ok i do understand snap on is really good but way over priced.

And ive noticed with snap on stuff etc, is a good fit to a bolt head, especially allen keys and toeques, the halfords ones which i have are always a bit iffy, if an allen head it extra tight i cant use the halfords ones, always rounds them.

Halfords don't drive round to a business tho and deliver tools etc! My stuff is mostly halfords bit I can defiantly see the appeal of using snap on when using tools all day every day!

Snap on's flank drive spanners are a god send too. I haven't used the Mac equivalents but nothing else I have used has come close

Hardly use mine and rebuilt most the car. The only ones I check are the low ones like 10-25nm

Most of my suspension, brakes and engine ancillary parts I do up without a torque wrench. You plan to use one but quickly find you can't actually reach a lot of places with one.

From Past experience halfords stuff is crap I use my tools to make my living so I use the best

I assume you mean the flank drive plus ones? Best money ive spent on a spanner those. So many times even the bluepoint/eurotools ones are not a tight fit and close to rounding off on a worn bolt head. Yet use the flank drive pluses and the just grip it perfect.

I guess £300+ for 10-19mm isn't in the average diyer's pocket to spend on spanners though. But when they are earning you 10s of thousands a year its worth the money to make your own life easier.

If I only did diy, id have them Halfords sets all day long.

use torque wrenches all the time in work, and as a rule we have to calibrate them every week, after 100 or so uses they tend to loose a nm or 2, halfords ones aren't that accurate going off the ones we've calibrated in the past

I don't blame you Toby. I wish i'd never bought it. I've had it for bloody years and i've used it about three sodding times. Every time I go to it, the batteries are flat.
Biggest waste of money ever. Should have bought a standard clicker for about half the price.

I've driven cars that owed me less than that damn thing
