Looking at these 2 cars for a replacement for the mrs 206cc and the S2000 as in september we will need a rear seat
I much prefer the looks of these over the saloon versions, but the extra space will be handy. (will be an S Line or M Sport)
Over the 2 i think i prefer the Avant S Lines, I am only looking to spend between 5-9K but i think you get more for your money with the Avants, any had any experience with them? pros / cons running costs etc..
Looking at something along these lines.

All help appreciated

Im guessing congratulations is also in order mate
Ive had both; much prefer the BMW as if you go for the M sport i felt was a bit more of an involving drive and generally had better bits standard. For the top end of your budget you would be able to get a nice e90 with reasonable miles

You'd get a newer shape A4 for that money, I'm considering either that or a 320d (again) for similar money to you lol

An 8k 3 series diesel touring will do about 2/3 the mpg of the Audi by the way, absolutely shocking on fuel, even without a remap.

I found the opposite. The BMW is far more efficient. Need to compare like for like
I.e 320D against 170PD or 170cr depending on the year. Most compare the 140PD or 143cr in which case the 318d the the comparison

Comparing an e90 320d 163 to an Octavia VRS (170)
The Octavia was better on fuel.
Also the insignia I have now is marginally better but still crap.

I was in the same dilemma 2 and half years ago but my reason was for touring with the mountain bikes and not a little one. Congrats though mate
I wasn’t interested in speed just a nice comfy drive. I test drove both and the Audi ticked all the boxes. Looks better, drove better, felt better... just better. And I’m not being biased as I’m normally a Vauxhall man but just fancied something a bit more up market hence testing them both out. But as you say in both models the estates look miles better than the saloons.
Once I hit the 3 year mark, I’ll be looking to getting a new B8 model sline Avant.
Had no issues what’s so ever with mine and love it.
That’s my personal research so hope that helps.
Each to their own I suppose but I doubt I'd buy a BMW with what Audi offer in the category of car I’m after. Just no contest.

I was in the same boat about 14 months ago, with 14k to spend. I went for the e90 got the 177 efficient dynamics engine, great on fuel, goes ok with a map much better to drive than the audi too! I'd do the same now with similar budget. The bmw is a nicer place to be handles well goes ok (better with a map) nicer looking (Msport v s line)

Ar first i thought the 3 series was the better option but im slowly swaying towards the Audi as I dont think i can get an M Sport thats half decent for about 6-7K as that is ideally what I want to spend.
Does anyone know what the 3.0 TDI is like or is that a bit over kill
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-3LTR-TDI-S-LINE-AUDI-A4-QUATTRO-ESTATE-/281087370026?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D6742066629717038756%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D281087370026%26
Alot of them are quite high milage 80K+ being the TDI versions am I going to be looking at turbos on there way?
Thanks for the congrats! life changes now

I did factor that in, my old 330 e46 i liked alot, was a nice drive, but i just think they are starting to look dated, and they seem to look more like an estate over the newer versions and the avants.
