been driving 12 years, had a shit year so far and to make things worse i reversed into a lass at works car in the works carpark. scuff on my bumper (2010 bmw m sport convertible), damage to rear 1/4 behind the door on her 2007 VW eos diesel.

I pay 300 quid to insure with axa, mods declared, protected NCB (10 years) and total excess is £600

Shes been to 1 place so far for a quote for my to pay to fix hers, came back as £900 which I thinks very steep, then about £150 on top to respray my bumper too

Would you go through insurance or pay the £600 excess? I wont lose my NCB but my policy will go up due to the claim - not sure by how much?

Thanks

Martyn

you can't say it's steep, she's done you a favour by giving you the choice of paying cash to fix it.

go through insurance, it won't go up £900 that's for sure.

To through insurance. Too risky to not, or you pay £900 (!) and she then goes through insurance afterwards anyway. No legal leg to stand on

This.

Insurance. That way can get yours done too for the £600. Instead of £1050. Can't see your insurance going up £450.

Why such a big excess also??

are you?

if he goes through insurance then he'll have to pay £600 excess and inflated premiums for 3-5 years

or pays £900 on off and his premiums stay the same/go down year by year

i must be missing something. i thought you only pay your excess if you need repairs on your own vehicle, whereas the repairs on the other vehicle is covered. so he'd only need to pay £150 instead of £600 if going through insurance.

How have I only just heard of this.

So if you have a shitter that you wouldn't be bothered about fixing up yourself, you could put your excess at £1000, if you crash you don't pay it anyway?

no its towards your own claim for damages. you pay it for repairs or its taken off the value of a total loss. third party claims arent subject to an excess.
