The 2.5 engine in the UK hawks onward is a bit of a time bomb. The engine suffers common HG and ringland failures which usually result in a rebuild.

The issue isn't isolated to modified cars, but forged builds are the first item on most modifiers checklist to protect against it...

It's pretty shocking really, it's been an issue for years which extends into the new hatches too.

Other than that, it looks like a tidy car and I'd love a JDM hawk (2.0 engine )

I wouldn't necessarily let it put you off, kinda like smoking... Everyone knows a 90 year old who has smoked since 16 and plenty of Hawks live on fine.

It's amazing how many people register on Scoobynet though, post "I've broken down", "looking for Impreza specialist in XXX" and then "Impreza for sale" within a few weeks

If you're after a hawk, there are loads which are post-forged build or even JDM ones which will be fine. The cars are pretty damn solid otherwise with 450bhp realistic from not a lot of ££.

I've noticed that the link you posted was for the 2008 onward engines. That one I'm looking at is 2006. Is there a difference???

Nope it's unfortunately common across the 2.5 engines which came in with the Hawks. I think there are a handful of VERY early 2.0 UK hawks but I could be wrong. The last mainstream UK 2.0 cars were the widetrack Blobeyes made in 2005 (like mine) and early 2006.

I think that thread was written at a time in which warranty claims were relevant with the 2008- hatches.

if it was kept at that power it would be fine, even a bit more, pushing it above 350bhp on the 2.5 is when people start to get problems, not everyone mind you just quite a few

i personally would not go for one unless your going to keep it pretty standard, go for a 2.0 or even budget in some forged pistons for the 2.5.

Yep I'd definitely consider a pre-forged 2.5. The torque characteristics of the engine apparently make it a much nicer driving experience when it's not blowing up

I wouldnt let the scare mongering put you off. If its near standard, and you leave it near standard it will be fine

problems start when folk run more boost/power/torque

Im sure after factoring in the internet and forum scaremongering (like my posts ) that standard cars will probably be fine, but I've definitely read multiple reports of failures on standard cars so its not a given!

110% agree with this. In standard, un-messed with form, scoobies are awesome cars and have never gone bang on me after owning 3. Sold one of mine, first thing the guy did was put a boost controller on it and it went pop a month after

With regard to the ad, great car but selling it because of speed bumps? Owned an RS prior to that tho? Alarm bells. However on the face of it tho it sounds like a decent cared for motor.

I kinda know the guy. He goes through cars like most go through hot dinners lol. He's forever chopping and changing. He sold the RS to buy something else as it was costing him a fortune on monthly payments. He stays in a new estate with big speed bumps every 100yrs or so and they last for over a mile. I've seen the car before and its pretty low.

Its completly standard bar a dump valve and air filter with the PP pack and certificate (if that means anything). It also comes with a 7 months Subaru dealer warranty.

Same old story, people buy something like that, do the common everyday mods that most of the internet have done, Purely because of the cost, then they go around thrashing it thinking they have something special and not really knowing anything else about an engine, apart from you can bolt on demon tweek type parts because some other guy on the internet raves on about it.

Its the people whose cars specs include things like a slightly wider diameter of pipe on a MAF housing

IMO, you should do it properly or not at all. I've only ever bought 100% standard unmolested cars and every "internet owner" car i've been to view has been shit and i soon realise peoples idea of a looked after car is a million miles away from mine.

Also it looks like a pile of chavvy wank, seriously i would feel a proper twat in that car

the fact its had a dumpvalve without any remap etc is probably a bad sign.

with regards to 3Cm comments, i cant remember the last time i saw a chav driving a 10k impreza? Need to wake up a bit and realise its not an old battered turbo 2000 with a 7 inch cobra backbox.

I see far more chavs driving about in their barried out golf/corrado VR6's, slowly aswell I might add.

The cost has nothing to do with it, its the general look of the car that i would find embarrassing, not how old or expensive it is i think its a statement of taste.

Corrado comment is imaginary imo

My thoughts exactly. People only tend to post about these things when they have trouble with them.

Also for what its worth, the PPP brings it up to 266bhp (270PS) iirc. Not the 320bhp he states in the advert.

PPP is 315-320 on the hawks, 305 on the Blobs.

You sure? I've just bought a GB270 (which comes with the PPP as standard) and the brochure says it makes 270ish bhp.

Yep you got a poverty spec

On a positive note it probably means your engine won't blow up.
