I have wanted a little 1.5TD for a while now. Came across a one with 185k on the clock with no tax or test and the bodywork a bit rough advertised at £350ono. It was local so i went and viewed it.

Got there and noticed it's sitting on 14" VW Polo steels, a set of 5 with excellent tyres so that was a good start. Got underneath and noticed it was rock solid, no corrosion around the usual places, seat anchor points solid etc so all good.

Checked the engine bay over, no oil leaks anywhere, not even from the alternator. No leaky injectors, engine bay is bone dry.

Started it up from cold, 1 preheat and she's alive. No stuttering, no smoke.

Took the car around the block, noticed the hand brake had no effect whatsoever and the pedal travel was horrendous . We agreed a price and i was away.

And that's how it started...........

Drove her straight home and stripped the rear brakes down. The shoes were like new which was a bonus, so i adjusted the brakes up nice and snug on the drum and that was that sorted.

Handbrake now excellent and no more pedal travel. Cost me nothing.

Last MOT had advisories for slight play in both rear wheel bearings. That slight play was now quite a bit play so i put two new bearings in that i happened to have lying around in the garage.

With that done, it was MOT time. She flew straight through with no advisories

I found an old K&N cone filter in the garage so i stuck that on for a laugh.

Ordered a Bleed Valve and cheap boost guage off of eBay.

Boost guage:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281097236645?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Bleed Valve:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380509245395?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

And then i cut the CAT out.

I then parked her up for a week while the parts arrived and the end of the month approached so i could tax her.

The parts arrived so i got started using this guide.

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=35931

Bleed Valve Fitted:

Boost Gauge Fitted: (Notice the high idle......)

It was very easy to follow. Set the boost to 1.0BAR as advised.

Taxed the car that day then took her for a blast up and down the motorway pissing myself laughing all the way.

Pulls so hard compared to before, chucking out loads of black smoke and you can hear the spool much more now.

Then i heard a metallic noise and the car started boosting to 1.25BAR (19psi) so i took her home to check her over.

I hadn't tightened to the bleed valve properly once set so it had unscrewed itself and fell off

I've just left it and done 500 mile so far as it is without any issues.

I'd be quite keen for one of these at some point, they sound pretty fun. Is it 3 door or 5 door? The 3 door TDs are pretty rare nowadays.

It's a 3 door

If I relocate the air filter, fit an intercooler and block the boost safety valve on the inlet I'm hoping to turn it up a bit more. Not sure about 2Bar though!

I'm going to lower it and fit a set of 2.0 brakes aswell.

It's on the standard exhaust at the min. I will get a slightly larger bore exhaust made up.

The best thing about this car is it still does 90miles to £10 diesel driving normally and still 70 miles kicking its head in.
