Next Tuesday I'm fitting a restaurant counter at Hilton Amsterdam, we're driving there in a Luton van with the counter (around 1 ton), all the kit and the 3 of us fitters. We're going via Dover/Calais ferry crossing, it's approx 460 miles (From Hinckley, Leics). Ferry crossing at 9am so will miss rush hour traffic.
I'm going to time the journey so have a guess how long it will take and I'll be giving out internetz points to the closest.

6.5hrs including ferry. No idea if that's even close but that's my guess.

Sounds like a maths exam question. I predict you will meet at dover 3 hours after you depart with a velocity of 45mph

Ive done it several times but for the life of me cannot remember the precise time it took.
I think its about 200 miles from Calais to Dam. I *think* the last time we got off the ferry about 7.30 and was in amsterdam for about 10.30? Stopped for food but never went under 90 the whole way with a few top speed runs.

~9hrs.
What i don't understand is why they're getting a UK company to do it; surely it'd be cheaper to get someone from the Netherlands in?

We fit all the Hiltons out in the UK, this is an extra that's all, we've done few in Europe.

What rush hour traffic you missing? UK or French?
Cause getting to Dover from Hinckley means leaving at about 6am which means M1, M25 and Dartford crossing. Best of luck with that!

Ferry leaves at 9, gotta be at docks for 8, at 60mph it's going to take us at least 4hrs to get to Dover. I'm getting picked up at 3am Tuesday morning.

Only 2 of us going now, and we hired a better Luton that's capable of a huge 70mph
I don't think this will affect the driving times much, if at all
