Powdercoat, has a much harder finish than paint and is more durable

Also looks as good, if not better. I had some tigra alloys done on my old Sport a few years ago now and the finish was even metallic looking

a good powder coater will be able to get the finish as good as paint! it is alot more durable so its less likely to chip.

Ive never ever seen powdercoated wheels look as good as wet spray....

I used to be a powdercoater too

Powdercoated.. As painted by me...

Wet paint by my shit painter mate..

As said piwder can be a good finish like my golfs wheels but it did take a good bit of effort. Its very durable too. Draw back is the stoving process is rumoured to fuck alloys.... Didnt know this at the time

A good wet painter will always get a better, clearer, deeper finish. I use wet paint now but have my tyres fitted on the rim before painting, once painted i inflate them and pop the beads on.. They is because they scratch easy especially when new paint

Reason enough to opt for powder coating IMO. Wheels can take a battering with normal road use, and tyres will need replacing eventually and protecting against damage is far better than a marginally better finish I reckon.

Can only be powdercoated if they are mint, you can't powdercoat filler.

hmm...depends on the colour too. I've had 2 sets of white wheels - one from Dynamics with powdercoat, and a set of cesaros i spent a week prepping and painting. The paint looks alot purer, without the creamy tinge of the powdered wheels.

I also thought the powdercoat chipped just as easy when the tyres were being fitted. Just gotta ask the bloke to be careful when he's doing it.

When i refurb the wheels on the DC5, i'll be spraying them tbh.

Well i've noticed that with most powdered wheels tbh, both from manufacturer and done by private company.

Silver powdercoat looks good - i had that on a set of Dynamics wheels too. Anthracite looks better painted though imo, especially if you get a really nicely flaked colour

Are factory wheels usually powder coated or wet sprayed?

silver is hard to picture easily and get the shiine if you look at the top of the wheel where the shadows are you can see its shiny and glossy

alwasy thought they where powder coated,

i painted my wheel, all be it rattle cans, but did it properly let them dry for a day or so between coats,

still chipped, rattle can paint is supposedly harder than what a body shop uses these days,

will be powder coating next time,

I reckon wheels should be refurbed every 3-5yrs if your car is a daily, regardless of the way the paint was applied.

Although after having mine painted, i will probably try powdercoat next time, just because i've found a place to do it and the price is better.
