Yes I know they're a Renault, and basic inside. But is it alot of car for the money?
You can pick them up for £3.5k-£4.5k, and they look fairly sporty, some come with Brembo's etc.
What you think ?
Shite interior lol

Didn't realise they were that price now, s'pose they've been out a while. Bit of a contrast to the Porsches you were looking at the other week. I like the look of them anyway.

I didn't think it was silly tbh. Lots of car for the money, better than a clio.

I think they look fairly nice. I prefer flame red, black or white ones though!

Yeah but to save myself 5,000 is a better option, plus running and maintaining etc

Good cars, weak boxes. Cheap to run 28-32mpg. Parts are cheap too.
Needs recaros as the standard seats are pish! Mate has a 200 excellent car.

Yeah that's fair enough, don't wanna turn it into a Porsche thread. The clios are nice.

I know someone selling a RenaultSport Clio 182 if that's of any interest - it's the 'Full Fat' version with the cup chassis but all the toys of the standard - it's had the bonnet catch replaced as per the recall, new water pump and aux belt recently. Just MOT'd last week - only advisories being rust on the exhaust and slightly distorted alloy. He's a kosher bloke, definitely took his time finding a good 'un and definitely looked after it.
I'll find out what he wants for it - he's based in Oxfordshire.

Are the decent ones really that much though?
I looked at these and Corsa VXRs as a bit of a toy for the second car and anything without moon miles or poverty spec was still £6k+.

Wouldn't say basic inside. Nice cars
Friend of mine just bought one same colour as that. 06 plate with 145k, one owner from new, full history all motorway miles. He paid £2k for it. And it's just had belts done. He had one a few years back with 30k on and he said it was worse than this with 145k on.

Brakes are a fucking nightmare if the pads need changed, pins seize into the caliper. Various drills and hammers sorts that though!

My mates was terrible on fuel, the 182's were OK but I always thought the 197's were pretty bad.

They all have Brembos.
Mines slowly but surely becoming my favourite car I've owned.
They aren't basic either, I've got auto lights, auto wipers, climate control, speed limiter, cruise control, traction control yadda yadda yadda.
Engines go on forever with decent oil changes and the correct Cambelt changes.
Gearboxes aren't weak, bit of a myth that one. There is a thread on Clio197.net and only 2% of members have had to have a box replaced, even so you can get a brand new box (not recon) on eBay for £350 quid.
Mine recently needed a clutch replaced as was becoming hard to select gears, no drama it's done 70k kind of thing to expect from a sporty car with that mileage.
It's got a stupid amount of ball joints as its revoknuckle setup on the front, if they wear don't let renault tell you, you can't buy the ball joints separately, they will say you need to buy the whole hub assembly I've all the ball joint part numbers saved in case I need them in the future.

Ojc do the 197/200's ever get the same squeaky clutch that the 1*2's get?

1200 miles to the 'Ring, two laps of the 'Ring and some cruising on autobahn at 110mph returned and average of 28.1mpg
Mines am earlier one with the higher ratio box so revs higher, anything post 57 had the latter TL004 box which reduces the revs in 6th by 500rpm

Mine never, even when knackered.
I'd say mines better on fuel than my Corsa VXR that was horrendous on fuel that thing I think I had to fill up 3 times on the way to the Ring in that.

I've started to look for something to replace the Clio with and I'm seriously struggling to find anything that's as good does as good a job with all the toys and looks as good.
We went 4 up in mine to Germany this year, that's 4 people's luggage.
