Ive been searching alot for decent ep3 type r's for sale, and im guessing my best bet is to search on forums full of enthusiasts. Im also wondering the pros and cons between an ep3 or a 182 clio. Part of me says go for the 182 but im thinking the ep3 would be slightly bigger and they are slightly cheaper to buy. This isnt a definate, just something im looking into and maybe sell the corsa and get something quicker/cheaper to insure.

I had a Type-R 8 years ago... Never, ever had a problem with it! Bullet proof! Goes for it being Japanese!

Only problem I had was the petrol! You'll have great fun in a Type-R.

I know what your saying. Ive been looking at both the type r and 182's and generally lower milage 182's are easier to find. I just feel the civic is bigger and may be more tunable if i decide i want to mod it.

Type R's are fine with high miles on, bought my EP3 on 105k running 250bhp for quite some years, now on 123k and had no problems at all. Pretty sure a French car with those miles will give you problems.

How much you looking to spend?

The main positive differences would be reliability and the quality of the interior. I've had 2 Type-R's...the Accord and the DC5 Integra i've got now. Loved them both. Nothing else has driven like them...even the ATR (for it's size) was totally chuckable. The parts can get quite expensive at times...but they last, so its never bothered me!

The clios though are pretty nice. I've never driven one...but heard many good things. I know someone who owns one of the '52' plate 182 Cup's and they are apparently great fun. That 'french car' issue has always bugged me though - which has kept me away.

As said earlier - don't be put off by milage on the Hondas. My 'teg is on 120k and its fooking awesome. Feels totally bulletproof and i trust it to do the milage i need from it.

I am in the Army and in the time i've had it i've done alot of driving to various places...both motorway and twisties in Wales, and it dispatches them all with ease.

I'm definitely biased to the Honda side, but i hope this info helps you out.

If i got what i wanted for my corsa then id spend about 3k on a new car. Just want something with more power that i can insure cheaper (sounds mad). Ive just been looking at both and wondering main differences and good and bad points on both. Ive heard good things and bad things about both. And ive heard the clios are better on fuel, and now im using my car for work that could sway me to the cheaper to run car.

The K20 isnt a bad engine if you are driving normally, i get 260 miles to £40 on the motorway. The problem is that its really easy to get tempted to give it some because the car always feels like it wants to go, which i think is a good thing. Once you get used to hte car though, after a few months, you'll probs settle your driving down a bit and get decent economy. There's a nice Honda community too - which i like.

Honda community has got to be better than some of the people on here trolling all the time. I dont drive that fast these days anyway. Just up to speed limits and then cruise. Just i can insure a standard type r for roughly half my corsa. Doesent make sence but oh well.

Insurance might be cheaper, but the running costs will be alot higher.

It seems like a no brainer to me tbh. Insuring a much better car for less than a Corsa, that you could afford to buy and run comfortably. Why wouldn't you lol.

I am seriously thinking about doing it. Which is why im asking for good forums to buy a good one from rather than a dog off ebay or autotrader etc. More power, more room, ac if im lucky and most importantly less insurance. Yeah tax is higher but my corsa isnt doing brilliant mpg for a 1.4 anyway so petrol wont be much different unless i drive like a tit everywhere.

Thing is though, they are ten a penny these days and more times than none you will pay more for a "known" forum car than what you would for the equivalent car from Gumtree etc.

Forum cars aren't always better. If you aren't confident enough to check a car over pay the £40 and get the AA etc to look over it.

I would find a few that you like - regardless of where you find it, if you like it and it's got decent history etc...then it wont be an issue. The forum ones are okay if its specialist and there aren't many...but there are so many EP3's out there now that the forum difference will be slim.

Have a good look about and even on the usual outlets such as gumtree, pistonheads and trader...im sure you will find a peach. I found my DC5 on ebay/gumtree.

Are you after a standard one that you can play with yourself or one that someone else has tinkered with?

Do you run your corsa on V-Power? I would defo recommend running the K20 on it tbh. People might say 'it doesnt make a difference' but i can guarantee that at 8.5k i want decent fuel to burn! Thats something else to think about if you are a supermarket fuel man, maybe?

your best bet is to go on autotrader, they will all be overpriced on forums.

generally internet people think their cars are worth a lot more. Some even require you to produce your portfolio before they will even sell it to you.

What sort of mpg do they return if driven normally, ie not given death everywhere? My mate had one and said it was crap on fuel. Obviously it will be more thirsty than the corsa, but are they as good as 182's on fuel?

In my FN2 the highest I have ever got was 31MPG at 60mph on the M4 on purpose to see what I could get.

Around town etc I average 24ish day to day!

There shit on fuel. At least my wife's old one was. You'll struggle to get 30mpg out of it around town. Go for the facelift model as I think they look better. Watch out for creaking power steering racks and crunching gears, both expensive to put right. I always try to buy from a forum, I look at all the persons previous posts to see if/what issues the car has/had. Lets face it if something goes wrong with your car then 99% of the time its the first you'll ask. I wouldn't have another tho as I just didn't like the fact that you needed to rev the tits off it to get your pulse racing. I prefer the rush a turbo gives you.
