The fuck?

Only on my car, the neighbours' have nothing on them. Happened on the old Astra before it departed as well, didn't think anything of it.
I poured water all over them but they just flew off and came back again

A mate of mind had an issue same as this with fly type bugs and got some 5.1 from halfords, wiped it on over night and left it. Came back in the morning and all gone.

Are you sure they're flies and not flying ants?

And no trees at work, open car park...

Well, flies wouldn't make a lot of sense, but flying ants could be congregating on the car from an underground ants nest, under or very near to the car.
They are really stupid and can hardly fly, so they tend to build up in a lump in one area and wait there until the temperature and wind speed are more conducive to them getting where they need to get.

Well the front garden has some shrubs in it, but that's about it. My motorbike is parked there, as is the black wheelie bin, I would expect both of those items to be of more interest to bugs / ants than the car parked further away

Its quite clear to me, this is on organised effort by the flies to attempt to steal your car, once there are enough of them, they will engage the suckers on their feet and simply fly away with it. Ring the police ASAP.

I wont be very pleased if I go out tomorrow morning to go to work and there is a carpet of dead flying ants on the car. Might get some funny looks when I get to work

I had this before.
I put it down to using the bubblegum scented car wash at the petrol station.
No Idea why though,

It's down to car colours, insects see light and therefore colours in a different range to us so two cars that look the same to us will look totally different in ultraviolet light range...
Hope that makes some kind of sense..if not try the brake fluid trick, that'll sort them out..

this is really funny, i have a black car and at work i get nothing like this, my friend has a silver BMW and his car is absolutely covered like yours in that pic, we park next to eachother, must be something to do with the colour i assume? or maybe its cooler then other paint or something, weird but did make me laugh.
