Been 5 years since I had my 1.2 8v Corsa B...Now driving an Evo 8 with over 7 times the horsepower.
Mate took me out in his Corsa B 1.4 Sport yesterday and it was so much fun - lots of noise, not actually going anywhere fast but handled well on the 60mm drop and brought back the memories
Tempted to get one for £500 just to knock around in.
Anyone else had a similar reminiscing experience?

I've neve driven a car that provides as much thrills as a corsa. Most modern cars are computer aided driving not driver aided driving. Corsa is the last of the classic hot hatches.

Hot hatch
106 is a better shout as last of the classics or even a clio 182
Some would argue the 205gti is the last true one.
A Corsa is fun but it isn't hot and isn't classic

this is where calling something by a name gets confusing, I would argue no it will never be a hot hatch but then again there are some "super cars" out there which don't deserve this title because they are terrible so where do you draw the line??
coupe's are the best one for me as most people seem to think a coupe is a sports car even though they usually share a chassis and engine along with there more conservative models in that's dealers range, meaning its same car just with a prettier face no quicker or better handling and what not.
I think the corsa gsi/sport is a great little car sooo cheap to fix and they are very very easy to work on, build quality isn't to shabby they was good size inside when compared to say todays corsa d ive never seen a boot that only has use for a hanky!!!
they weren't to slow I absolutely drilled my 1.4 16v sport and it never missed a beat.
problem with the corsa is it just lacked the handling really compared to the 106 gti but if this was sorted in my opinion it would be a much better car than 106 gti firstly because you actually be able to go for drive without needing a gearbox rebuild, and don't say this is a myth about build quality because my close friend had a 106 rally and 106 gti in which both gave endless gearbox problems...

Corsa lacks pace, 106 is quite a bit quicker, and handling from the 106. Gearboxes on the 106s are shite.
Few other cosmetics mechanical things better on the 106 eg rear discs

Bottom ends on the Corsa X14/X16 are soft too. Have read of endless piston ring problems and smokey engines.

I would say the corsa gsi was a 90s hot hatch. Its not by todays standards but in 1994 they where the bollocks!

In that period it was quite far down the pecking order in terms of best hot hatches

Pretty sure the GSi was rated top of the hot hates when it was reviewed by Autocar in '93.
Edit - found it, not top but didn't do bad.

Forgot about the clio Williams, pulsar and starlet turbo.
You can't compare a modded Corsa to a standard other car and say it's better either. That's not a fair Comparison.
I'm not slagging off corsas, iv had several, they were fun, but iv also had other stuff from the same era that like it or not was a lot better in terms of being a hot hatch. I'm merely offering an argument to the claim it was the best hot hatch in the 90s
It wasn't, by quite a distance.

this is the problem. place is full of people that dislike what the site is about. and they are happy to poke their nose in at all times.
plus the opinions of a guy who has a car under a sheet and a written off mini should be ignored anyway

Aren't you breaking yours Barnes?
Be good when you take your own advice and stop using the site because you no longer own a Corsa.

I'd only have ever classed a Corsa GSi as a 'Warm' Hatch of it's era, the Hotter models generally being the larger cars - Astras, Escorts etc

I've owned 3 Corsa Bs. Loved all of them in their own right. Still have an itch for another.
That doesn't mean id say std vs std it is on par with Clio Williams 205 GTi etc. it isn't. There is no argument.

I've owned one and would never have another tbh. Its was fun at the start as the 2ltr 16v in a Corsa was pretty rare back then but the body of the car rapidly fell apart. Chassis started rotting closely followed by the boot and the door pillars splitting.
Some can be pretty special if looked after properly tho, there's quite a few in the projects section. If I absolutely had to by another Corsa it would have to be the Vxr.
