Hey guys thought I'd just put this out there.
I'm contemplating either of the above, but not 100% sure which to go for. I like air ride because of how low it goes, I know you can't drive that low unless some modifications are done or probably not at all, but as with coil overs they are more practical aren't they?
Any give me some help please?

My girlfriends golf is on coilovers and that's about as low as what you can go on coilovers. Lays the subframe all the time, bottom arms are pretty worn, exhaust takes a battering and the dogbone mount is buggered. So are both the rear arches dew to the tyres rubbing constantly. Static cars are cool as hell but personally if I was going to run mega lows I'd go for air ride all day long. Purely because you have massive amounts of adjustability. Don't have to worry about pulling bumpers off, cracking sumps, ruining arches etc. Coilovers are obviously the cheaper option and you can achieve mega lows but sooner or later it's going to get trashed just from being driven in general lol!

Cool as hell damaging the whole underside of the car and prematurely wearing out the other components which aren't in direct contact with the ground.

Static low is always going to cause problems but coilovers can certainly give an awsome look without being stupid! However if i had the money and a car worth spending them on i would!

Depending on how much you would be planning on spending really!
end of the day cheaper option is coilovers for the inital outlay.
Bags are good but go 4way
If you don't mind the ride you get on coilies then Hydros are always an option too.

Hydraulics are in a different league, apart from anything else for a good setup you're talking at least a couple of grand. I'd fucking love an SEC500 on them though

As for the sensible replies, thank you. It will be more for looks rather than performance. So I am swaying towards air.

TBH I don't see how you can compare, one cost's a couple of hundred quid and can be fitted on the drive while the other needs a specialist and can't really be removed from the car easily if you wanted to sell the car on.
Unless your doing other big mods I would go for coilovers.
I see the benefits though, thought I smashed the sump off my TT last night
