Took my corsa sport for an mot this morning and its failed on emissions.
001 Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive
002 exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive.

Could anybody explain what's causing the emissions to be so high and what I can do to help get these down as I've got to take car in for a re-test on monday morning and would prefer if I could solve problem beforehand and save some money. Year of car is 98.

Bottle of Redex fuel treatment, £10 worth of Shell Optimax or any other higher RON fuel, then take it out and kick its hole in.

Done this 3 times on past cars and its worked a treat. Your emissions aren't that high compared to what they should be so the above should sort it.

Its had a bottle of redex and a good old thrashing down the mway, so we will see the outcome 2moz morning. Could replacing the lambda make a difference if that passed the test and eml isn't showing.

You need the thrashing just before the test

Faulty MAP sensors, vacuum leaks etc have all been known to cause emissions failure, maybe have a look around your bay for anything obvious.

But by the time they come to do the emissions test, it will have cooled down.

Not sure what its like down south, but up here, they do the emissions test at the end, so about 30mins later. And then add some time on for messing about, getting car in the garage etc at the start.

Emissions test was done at the end of all the other checks so you are right in saying the cat would of cooled down. I seem to be getting a strong smell of fuel out the exhaust tho atm, its bugging me what it could be ??
