Not sure what this all means, but shit just got real.

I'd be well pissed off if I went over there to do the tourist stuff and everything closed.

Ed, brilliant and so appropriate.

Danny

Ben, too true Chief. Also, dealing with the backlog of work, clearing the inevitable piles of rubbish and the lost tourism revenue will surely cause more problems and cost more money in the long run than keeping those services functioning.

Very stubborn and near-sighted of the right-wing hick element imo.

Politics, isn't it wonderful.

Also, re Breaking Bad, did Walter not get into cooking to provide for his family after he'd gone, rather than to pay for his treatment?

Dave is right I think.

I haven't really followed this story, but is the gist of it relating to a similar NHS trust system being setup in America?

Would it be privatised or state ran?

I can see a lot of wealthy insurance companies and political people being out of pocket if its state ran.

Both. It's a system to help people who can't afford healthcare get it. The USA is a disgraceful country when you think about it, the poverty, the fact that they'd rather see you die than get medical care and that the government has shut down because Obama wants to provide affordable healthcare to those who need it.

Typical filibuster; why they allow them is beyond me as it's purely a delaying tactic.

And Cruz is an utter moron, tbf the Tea Party is generally, and reading 'Green Eggs and Ham' is a bit ironic - about a character that outright refuses to try something and when he/she finally does try the green eggs and ham, they like it

What i don't understand is why this is evening happening as 'Obamacare' already passed a few years ago

Republicans are delaying the budget so Obamacare can't be launched.

I get that but you'd think they'd have given up when it passed; it's just seems moronic to throw a tantrum and shut the government down because you lost and didn't get your way

It's exactly like 'It's my ball, I'm taking it home'. It's unbelievable that they can get away with it.

Yup, it's fucked up that this is happening, and it is even more fucked up that this can actually be allowed to happen.

USA is a country damaged almost beyond repair, as far as I can tell.

Obamacare has been called a move towards communism, while in fact most civilised, democratic countries perceive it as a fairly right wing form of health care.

A democracy that serves two shades of right is not much of a democracy in my book.

The whole structure of their government is not fit for a country as large as they have become, but they are hell bend on holding on to their old ways.

The whole thing is a paradox, really. The people are undereducated and in support of policies that makes sure they remain undereducated. Everything about the American political situation smells more like dictatorship than democracy.
Except of course, that in place of one dictator they have a group of whiney, right-wing mummies who can not agree on anything.
At least in a dictatorship, things get done.

It isn't just the republicans, they all do it - Wendy Davis did it a few months back on the anti-abortion bill. Filibusting still seems like a complete to me though....
