I was extremely lucky recently in winning a Surface 2 directly from Microsoft themselves, unfortunately the buggers wouldn't ship it out to the UK though! I managed to get in touch with an old friend of mine in America and selected her address for it to get delivered to... now I have to get it over here.

I wanna make it as simple as possible for her to do, what's best!? I know I'm gonna get stung on import tax etc. so obviously I wanna make the delivery as cheap as possible! It doesn't bother me how long it takes to get here...

FedEx or USPS should be able to ship something over for around $40 (a guess from shipping similarly sized things before). As it's genuinely a gift then you shouldn't have to pay import tax or VAT on it either.

Get her to send it to my Mum (lives in Pennsylvania) - she's coming over in January and I can forward it on.

Get her to mark it 'produit de Colombie' and sling it in the post with no postage paid, addressed to you, at your house.

I'm sure the police will deliver it for you KZ

They only collect from a handle of EU countries unfortunately.

kz - Best bet is USPS Priority Mail, shouldn't be more than £30/40. Import VAT is where you'll get stung though but use www.dutycalculator.com.

I believe tablets are exempt from duty but you pay VAT on anything over £40, even if it is a gift (HERE) and i can't see you getting a tablet across valued at £40.

Ouch www.dutycalculator.com says I'm looking at just over £100

Wouldn't risk the gift if it wasn't insured for £500 or so anyway!

Thanks for all the information so far.

Looks like he'll be enjoying a £100 Surface 2 instead of a free one then!

Sorry ain't been online for a few days.

Thanks for the offer I really do appreciate that. At the end of the day though I don't know you from Adam... I hope you don't take it personally. I've been done over by someone on a forum before unfortunately

In fact, I may have been done over with this one already... my 'friend' hasn't been in contact since she received my prize. Maybe I'll never hear from her again. Goes to show you can't even trust people you do bloody know!
