I currently have an old mechanical thermostat which looks horrid on my newly papered wall.
Been looking at touchscreen digital thermostats, specifically this one:
http://www.theunderfloorheatingstore.com/heatmiser---touchscreen-programmable-thermostat---prt-ts-4037-p.asp
Looks alright, but would prefer a silver finish if possible.
Are there any others on the market around that price that don't look like shitty chinese copies?

Heatmiser ones don't look that good in real life, you can kind of see the touch overlay on it, better just getting one with buttons.
Honeywell CM927 was the best of the bunch when I needed one.

Think my dad has a honeywell. They look quite bulky. Ideally I need something around 100x100 in size.

That particular honeywell one can sit on a table somewhere, doesn't have to go on the wall.
I suppose it is bulky, bigger and deeper than a lightswitch.

Sorry, that was in reply to john.
With the wireless ones, do you have a wall mounted bit and then something you leave on a table?
Seems a bit of a faff. I just want something that does the same job as my old one that turns but looks modern and is digital.

No it's all built in, just goes on the wall like a normal one but no wires.
Have you looked at the hive?

I typed it in on google but couldn't see an actual product, just a description of what it does, which is fantastic.
Its 199 quid though. More than I want to spend I just want something for aesthetic reasons rather than something packed with features.

I spent an hour last night reading reviews on them and some said that if the thermostat isn't at your eye level, the screen is barely readable.
Shame really as I like the look of them and they appear good value.

If you only have a mechanical stat chances are there's no neutral there. Which would mean you can't have anything that needs power.
Worth checking first.

Wish they'd hurry up and release the 'Nest' in the UK.

Cheers for that. Iirc there are 3 wires + earth, which means I can install that heatmiser one posted above.
Ash, that nest Is a smoke alarm, is it not? was eyeing it up on the johnlewis website. May have to invest in one of those as my smoke alarms are wired in (but switched off at the mains, they beep constantly).

If you've got a 3 core there your fine then. I'd like a decent stat but only have a twin there which is a bastard

No need. I only need the thermostat where it is currently.
If I go for wireless, I still need to put a receiver thing on the wall, as well as have something sitting on a cabinet.
Good idea for a big house, but not much point for a small 2 bed property.

I meant for Gary.
You put the receiver bit back at the boiler though so could have nothing on the wall.

Ah ok, no good for me then
Might just go for the heatmiser one. Was looking at the wi-fi one so I can control the heating with my phone, but not sure it's worth the extra 60 quid for what would end up being an unused novelty.

You also get wired but battery powered ones. Means you can have 2 core cable and don't need mains running to it.
