"Why do we have a complex vehicle tax system anyway? If all tax was on the price of fuel it would automatically factor in engine size, transmission efficiency, miles driven, style of driving etc and would need no cameras or expensive admin to enforce payment."
And if you've not got fuel you can't use the car anyway unlike if you've not got tax.

Because there is enough tax on fuel as it is, let alone putting more on there. The disk is another way to scam us for more money

Surely a disk/system is cheaper anyway than taxing fuel.

Had a debate with someone on Facebook a while back who was saying its a bad idea it would further incentivise fuel theft / duty evasion / other crimes which are more difficult to enforce than RFL evasion. Forget whose status now otherwise I'd link it, but he made some good points.
None of which are my problem btw. I'd well prefer it. In fact I'd even go so far as saying I'd be happy paying a bit more as it would give more freedom to swap between more cars. Obviously that's not a populous camp.

It'd all depend on by how much the cost of fuel went up. If it was a couple of pence I'd probably be the same as now, maybe slightly better off. If it was 20p+ a litre I'd be worse off over a year by a few hundred quid. So I wouldn't like to say I was all for it without knowing the figures.

I purposely bought a car that's lower tax though but I do a fair few miles so it wouldn't work in my favour, hence why I don't like it

old tax discs might be worth something in a few years when everyone's got rid of them. I threw my old one on the fire the other day
