Euro car parts have an offer on oil and other things. Not done an oil change in 11k so could do with a change.

Is there much difference between 5w40 and 10w40? Hand book states i can use 10w40 and is a lot cheaper.

If the handbook says you can use it then there's your answer!

11k? Fuck that for a waste of money-mine gets done every 20-25k and I'm almost up to 175k miles on the clock without any issues and never uses a drop or needs so much as a top up between changes. Fuck changing it because the oil is cheap.

Complete waste of time changing oil so often on normal cars, per manufacturer recommendation is more than enough.

Whats wrong with 11k mile changes? I'd say that was about average for almost all normal cars.

Mine are every 15,500 or 2 years (computer re-adjusts if the car gets driven hard). Mines due now and i've done 13,000 miles.

11k is fine, unless its 20k interval in which case its a waste. Changing oil in a standard corsa every 5k is just pouring money away.

I'd agree on something that needed it, something with a higher tuned engine or big block but I can't see an out of warranty 4 pot Peugeot needing it. My car isn't exactly neglected and most people are amazed when they find out its on 175k so I can't see a justification for servicing it more regularly to 'look after it' when it's doing perfectly well without it.

Corsa's were 10k intervals. My Fiesta is 12.5k.

Andrew's could well be overdue.

If the handbook says you can, then use it. But change the filter too.

iirc the difference betweem 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40 is operating temperatures. But yours would be fine as it isn't high performance.

I've never been a fan of 20k services, it just seems far to long. I understand oil has come a long way from the old days.

When i had the car last serviced at Robins & Day, they recommended every 20k with this engine. There is no warranty on this car now so there is no need to pay £120 to have the fluids topped up and and oil change (Level 1). The cost of oil is £12.50 for 5 litres and a filter a couple of quid.

I top up 1 litre of oil every 5k with this 1.6 vti BMW engine on average. Seems the norm to do this from what i've googled.

I'm going to trial the 10w40 Euro Car parts oil. Cannot go wrong with £12.50. A cheap takeaway costs more than that.

Yours is not a micky mouse petrol engine though. There is no way this 'thing' will make 175k Sounds like it's falling apart on 45k.

The Triple QX stuff is decent. I change mine every 5-10k and it still looks spot on when it is drained back out.

That doesnt mean the oil is good, youre just draining the oil sooner than you should be.

I never understand people who buy second hand cars, most likely the 5th owner, who decide to change the oil long before its required.
