A drug overdose is believed to be the cause of death

Only 46 years old too.

Mainly remember him from The Boat That Rocks, awesome film.

Sad times, read that he'd been clean for about 23 years before relapsing recently.

Phenomenal actor.

Boogie nights, Charlie Wilson's War and Magnolia. One of my fave actors.

What a waste

Might be just me, but i can't place him in a film which I've seen. Never the less, such a shame when people in the spotlight pass like this. Also...he didnt look 46. He could pass for 60+ in some of the shots IMO!

Same here, I recognise him, but couldn't name a film he's been in. Drugs are bad.

For those who haven't seen him much, please check out some of his films. The guy was a fucking walking master class. Amazing range, and very watchable. Starred in many different roles and different genres.

You've all missed out.

I'm always absolutely perplexed by the rich and famous getting into smack. Getting their kicks using junk that lowlife scumbags that steal to feed their addiction do. There is no happy ending with it ever, doesn't take a genius to realise that.

Must have some serious psychological issues to be that rich and let yourself become a junkie.

Either that or you must be a monumental idiot.

Some of the press coverage of this is rancid. His kids and family will have to read that, no dignity whatsoever. "Was found with a needle sticking out of his arm"
Nice!

The police released that information, the press are just relaying it, its their job.

His kids dont deserve it, but they surely would of known he'd been to rehab last year, so surely they'd know what he was doing, and expect it to a certain extent.

Agreed. He's been in some amazing films and always delivers.

Talented Mr. Ripley, Almost Famous, MI3, Charlie Wilson's War, The Boat That Rocked. Very versatile actor.

Never enjoyed Capote much, but there's no denying how superb a performance Hoffman gives.

The guy killed himself by sticking a needle full of drugs in his arm and it's the press that should worry about how he's portrayed to his kids? Right...
