Initial reports say it's quite good. But yes, overpriced VWs not really "news" these days. Scirocco R is extortionate for a FWD hatch back.

Would rather buy a £2k corrado and spend £10k+ on it and it be better than a scirrocco or golf tbh.
Only downside is resale value if your that way inclined.

£40k is just a crap amount of money to spend on a new car.
(hear me out...)
I know you can ALWAYS get better used cars for the money, but particularly with something like 30-50k the new cars you can get are pretty naff, let's face it.
£60k+ you can start to get some nice stuff, GTRs and 911's for example...
At 30k you can also get some awesome cars, Focus RS/Sirocco R/that Mini GP thingy etc...
30-50 just seems like mid-spec executive saloons and shit like that. Proper snooze mobiles.

Focus RS is limited and also overpriced. The Scirocco is M135i money and half as good. Plus that's without any options.

No one will ever pay 40k cash for one, so the price means nothing.
It'll all be on pcp deals, which I don't really care about. I do know a few on here go mad about that stuff though. Weirdo's.

Regardless of it being a product of the Uberbrand of Volkswagen, anyone who would spent £40k on a Golf is a fucking moron.

Either that is a typo or has a huge spec.
---------
Volkswagen says the Golf R will go on sale in spring 2014, and prices are tipped to come in below £30,000 for a manual-equipped three-door Golf R, with the DSG-equipped cars carrying a premium of around £1200.

Depends what you want from a car really. If your after speed and power, don't buy a new car in this price range.
If your after something thats good on the road, there are a few decent options up to the £50k mark. That'll buy you a nice specced up S4, and with a remap, you have bang on RS4 performance. Thats 400bhp odd, not really a snooze mobile. Just shoddy round bends. If you want pure sports, that money will get you a serious track car. Again, not really snooze mobiles. As Jambo says, it'll buy you a low/mid end Porsche, and whilsts its no jizz monkey straighline speed, you'll have epic fun in the bends. So I have to disagree somewhat.
That Golf is also priced more than I've spec'd one up from VW at from factory, with more options. Hell, a brand new S3 comes in cheaper than that.

Your right, because no-one can pay £40k cash, as it will go through money laundering checks and will be turned down. You can only pay a % in cash.

That's obviously not what he meant. You can pay 40k cash with your debit card or a bank transfer.

You know what I mean. People won't walk into a vw showroom and pay for this outright. It'l be a finance deal and give back/px after 2,3,4 years.
