I'm never getting in a helicopter. Ever. My pal has one, well his dad, and he's said I can go up in it sometime. Flat out refused. Fuck that seriously.

You not getting on planes either then, considering they crash?

Tbf, they're extremely safe and you're missing out on a brilliant experience - it's well worth doing

Yeah maybe, I just don't trust helicopters I'd trust my pals dad I think as he's very experienced. He travels to business meetings in his instead of by car. It must be pretty fucking amazing seeing Scotland from above like that, such a sense of freedom.

That's good John, because it would be a right shame if anything happened to you.

I wouldn't be here to pull up completely idiotic comments if I died.

Not really idiotic, if you have a fear of something you tend to be scared of doing things related to it. That's how fears work. That's why I've not been on a plane in over 10 years.

There's a bit more to it than seeing stories online and staying away from it just because of that.

But you know everything don't you John, so there's no point me explaining.

Your irrational fear is separate to the fact that planes and helicopters sometimes crash.

You can be scared of flying if you want.

All other types of transport sometimes crash, you aren't scared of them.

Not sure what you have to laugh about with life in general Generation?

Yes, but all types of other transport don't carry the risk of falling from the sky for some reason. Which scares the shit out of me. Which is why I'm scared of flying.

I'm not scared of flying because planes are big and scary, because they are not. I'm scared of flying because of what could potentially happen if you are in a situation of it crashing in any way.

Yes, that's quite irrational. But realistic. It does happen. I'd rather take my chances crashing in a car than a plane/helicopter.

I know the old argument of if the plane goes wrong, you'll probably die. But (and it's a big one), do the stats not show you are (massively) more likely to die in a car crash anyway, which completely negates the first bit.

Why are you explaining yourself? If you don't like doing it, then don't.

Are we discussing the rationalities of an irrational fear?

Massively more likely due to the fact of how many cars are on the road at any given time, or how likely someone is to crash in to you? personally I think you can't compare statistics from the two. It's not reasonable.

If a helicopter falls from the sky the impact is likely to kill you, they're not the sturdiest of machines. If the actual crash doesn't I'm sure the aviation fuel igniting on impact will.

How many people have walked away from serious plane/helicopter accidents? more people die in car accidents due to the fact there is more of them. Not because of the severity of the accident.

Where do you draw the line? ~700 people die a year falling down the stairs.
