I'm needing to buy a new car/4x4 which I can easily chuck a mountain bike in as I'll be doing it a few times a week.

Wanting to spend anything between £3-6k.

First thoughts were a L200 warrior or similar but the back ends aren't as long as a bike so not sure if it'll work.

I've always had BMWs so a E46 touring or an X5 are on my list, anybody fit a bike in either of these?

I don't want a van but a 4x4 would be ideal as in the future I could do with a tow bar and able to tow the odd car.

Any ideas? Age and mileage aren't an issue, would prefer a diesel though.

Not really keen on the older ones. My parents have a 10 plate one and looks nice but anything in my price range look too dated.

Saying that though, The old S6 were cheap when I last looked

I did look at them

I don't think they're long enough inside. They're also expensive.

Yours is the same as I want, how did you find it? Are they as unreliable as people say they are?

I'm used to Beemers so it could be a safe choice, also my best mate owns a BM breakers so if anything breaks it shouldn't be too bad to fix.

Is that was people say? Mine was fine pretty much. Common things are the auto boxes and suspension parts with them being a big motor.

I think the real problem is, they're a £50k motor or there abouts and people buy some shitter for £3k then moan when it has issues. I'd have no problem recommending one, just make sure it's a looked after one.

Iv a SWB Shogun and the bike goes in the back of mine with the seats folded forward and the front wheel off. Its tight though.
If your wanting a towbar for future why not get any car you want and get a tow ball mounted bike rack? Thule make nice but expensive ones. Iv got a maxx raxc one : http://www.maxxraxx.co.uk/products.html

Also doesnt limit you to going out on your own or with others who have cars that can carry bikes

Best reply of the year!

What Brettles said. Expensive to fix when/if it goes wrong, look for a good one and you should be fairly safe, plus you know BM's etc.

I don't know why you need such a big car, most hatchbacks will take a bike, with the seats folded down and the wheels taken off. How about maybe a Signum or Astra estate?

Don't see why you need a 4x4 for tow specifically.

Get a Mondeo or Vectra estate - positively cavernous and a bike will go in wheels attached with the back seats folded which is a 30 second job.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not being lazy and not wanting to ride it ha, it's for my bike business and I'll end up buying a couple of bikes a week so will be good to have something I can chuck it in. I have a Thule rack but it's a bit of a pain tbh.

Not sure why I read about the X5s being unreliable, I've had 10 Beemers and have all been spot on. I've currently got a 330ci so should be very similar to that really.

Was thinking a heavier car would be better to tow with. I haven't read about the laws and limits but can you tow bmw size cars with an estate? Sorry if that sounds dumb lol.
