Afternoon All

I'm currently in the process of pricing a new kitchen for my flat from Wickes, and some of the items are in a national 20% unit sale.

Not the corner units etc. which are twice the price! What would pople think is a resonable ammount of disocunt to ask for?

The 20% discount is currently agaisnt jsut over half of the kitchen, I'm tempted to ask for 20% discount across all of it?

Are you talking off the shelf or design centre?

Staff get 20% discount, not that that's relevant much.

Design centre, be prepared to walk away although everyone says that, have the bottle to do it if things aren't what you want. They have the margin to do deals and the consultants are commission based.

Off the shelf, I'd usually suggest avoiding bank holidays as they won't do anything for you.
Best bet for a large (as in worktops sink etc) kitchen is to go in around 7pm, end of the day, they will moan that you've had 12 hours to turn up and buy a kitchen but they will love a good sale if they aren't on target money wise. Again, be prepared to walk out.

If it is in a sale, I can't see them going much beyond 20% off the lot.

Down to the manager you speak to though really.

They bent over backwards for people at our store.

Travis Perkins is owned by Wickes Gary (just thinking about Trade Places) and even with my cash account and discounts, Wickes is still cheaper for plastering stuff than TP; Infact B&Q are currently 3p per 8x4 9mm drywall cheaper than Wickes who in turn are cheaper than TP-trade places aren't always cost effective.

We bought a kitchen for the flat at Wickes last weekend which came in at £440 down from £750(ish) shelf price. However, getting the sink and worktop elsewhere as it's cheaper to do so. Benefit of Wickes units is that they come complete with carcass, drawers; doors; soft close; brackets; handles, etc. whereas most others you buy all the above separate.

20% store promotion took it to £600 and the rest I assume is because the missus went in and got it whilst wearing a fairly low cut top...and she's also a massively cheeky cunt when it comes to asking for money off.

Got my kitchen from Wren. They beat howdens price and gave us better branded oven/hob instead of howdens own brand. Although I bought worktops seperate off eBay.

Does your builder friend throw the units around or something?

Virtually every off the shelf kitchen unit from Wickes/B&Q/Homebase will last way more than 5 years. Ours was B&Qs off the shelf and is now 8 years old and not a single sign of it needing replacing.
