I was thinking earlier on my way to work and realised that I don't actually know what a lot of the car acronyms stand for.
TD is Turbo Diesel obviously

Some of the basic ones I'm not sure about:
GTi
VRS
RS
ST
STi
VTR
VTS

If anyone can name the above and think of any others on any vehicles, old or new, some of us might find it interesting.....

RS is Rallye Sport
STI is Subaru Technica International
ST (in Ford land) is Sporting Trophy

VR6 is a good one imo actually has proper meaning to it.

None of this grand touring injection rally sport recaro turismo racer bullcrap that doesn't really mean much about the car.

GTi - Gran Tourismo injection
VTR - Vitesse Tres Rapide (Very Fast speed)
VTS- Vitesse Tres Sportif (Very Sporting Speed)

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Was once told SR stood for Super Razzle, how much truth there is in that I'm not sure.

A lot of them don't have any abbreviation.

Gte is same as gti but the E is for the German word for injection, well that's what I've been told.

VRS-

Skoda wanted to use RS on their rally cars but Ford already had the right to use RS so Skoda added a v in front of RS to get around this.
Hence vRS and not RS
