Further to my 'digging out chalk' thread, I need somewhere to put the soil/chalk.
I currently have 20 rubble bags full and i'm not even half done. The bags cost £4 for 10 in b&q and taking them to the tip takes forever. They also split so not ideal.
Had a look at skip hire which is quite expensive, then spotted the company 'Hippobag'. Seems pretty legit, buy the bag in B&q then book collection on the hippobag website.
Costs are £95 for bag and collection, so not bad I think, but if they were that good, surely more people would be using them? I don't think i've ever seen any.

Buy a skip for an extra 50 quid. I wouldn't trust one of those bags to hold much

£235 is the cheapest I could find. Also means not having anywhere to park my car and needs to be filled as quick as possible
Must be south east tax.

Them hippo bags only hold roughly a tonne, so it would be worthwhile getting a skip as they can hold Upto 4x that!

Alternatively make a massive pile in the garden and slowly dump it in the waste bin

Sorry mate, I did read your u2u and forgot to reply! Tonne bags may be a bit excessive as I highly doubt i'd be able to move them but cheers anyway mate, I do appreciate the offer.
A mate has suggested hiring a van for a day and taking the bags down the tip, which I don't think is a bad idea tbh. Might look at prices for hiring.

Advertise on ebay freecycle and gumtree. I got rid of loads of soil that way. there is always someone wanting to fill in a pond level off or build a raised garden.
The fact its advertised as free means a few people take it just because its free

Depends what the policy is on taking a van.
Liverpool council won't let you take a van without a permit.

A sign at the end of your road will do the trick. "FREE HARDCORE" with the house number.

Our local tip didn't like me taking lots of rubble to ours when i dug out a path. On my 3rd trip (in a 206 so not many) they said i could bring no more so then had to do trips to other ones in the area....and then got warned by another as my brickes were not baggd and they have to be bagged (even though you empty the bag into the bin?? madness)
Just doing the same again digging out for a shed so took 10 bags last night and will have another 8ish ready to go after tonight. See if I get warned again
Just noticed this at our local council site ref vans:
Householders who have hired a vehicle for two days or less do not require a permit, but should present their hire purchase documents to site staff on arrival.
