Finally popped my track day cherry at the knockhill track day thanks to Kingdom FM which ran it as a freebie from 6-8pm.

This is me rather nervous heading out on track. All the pics and vids were taken by the wife who was on the pit wall. A load of friends went on as well which made it an awesome night.

Loved the look of this LCR on white grids

My mates Corsa C track car was rapid, 300+bhp turbo engine so I was chuffed to bits when I pulled past it and stayed there lol.

Me against my mates grey Leon Cupra.

And a few others of my mates motors. The first one is a my lassie pal giving it the beans in her 500 Abarth

And a few short flyby vids

One thing I will say is the discs are pretty much goosed, this was after 4 laps and they were that badly warped the whole car shook violently when braking heavily.

What pads are you using?

I had terrible disc shudder on standard pads after they got hot, haven't had the same problem with decent pads, they transfer the heat better so the discs don't get as hot.

I was there last night as well in my mates stripped/caged Clio. I thought I recognised that number plate from somewhere. I tried to just pay in on the night but they didn't have any of it

Robin - Just standard pagid stuff, deffo not the best for track use.

Beato - you should have just handed over your license and then signed up, they wouldn't have been any the wiser. That's what my mates with the Corsa and Ibiza Cupra done and got away with it

There's one this Tuesday which I'm thinkin about but I need to think about upgrading the brakes first. They took a serious battering yesterday

Totally free. You needed to fill in a form to Kingdom FM find they phoned you once they received it but a few of the guys didn't bother and just drove up, handed over there licenses, filled in the consent form, got there wrist band and away they went lol.

I thought my disks were shagged after Silverstone @ Trax - the shuddering remained for about 200 miles after the last of the track laps. It eventually faded away and got smooth again, presumably I had clumps of poorly distributed pad material burned onto my disks.

Switched up to Carbone Lorraine RC5+ pads for track days now, and done two full days since with no hint of fade or shuddering - and still on the same set of disks I did Silverstone on.

Glad you enjoyed the day, and glad I'm not the only one who gets nervous

Funny you said that as the discs are ok now. I might just try a pad upgrade first then as the discs are only a few months old.

That's exactly what it is. A garage will skim the discs if you don't want to drive it as it is. Whilst it's not impossible to avoid you can reduce the risk by doing more cool down laps to allow the breaks to cool

Kyle, you might to check those pads on your return. I was under the impression that the RC5+ where meant to have solved the issues with the pads falling to bits but I took some off the other day and the last 3/4mm crumbled off them.

At least people are gradually waking up to the realisation that "warped discs" is a load of shit

I've had them on and off the car about 6 times now, they're great on track but my god they're too noisy on the road - so I swap them out a week prior to a track day then back again afterwards. Never noticed any abnormal wear on them, I think my disk takes the brunt of the wear with the RC5s on!
