Looking to sell the S3 and go for an old school Porsche.... 996, so not too old!

Opinions on this one?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201406114927008/sort/default/usedcars/page/3/radius/1500/make/porsche/postcode/l204np/model/911/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/keywords/3.6?logcode=p

I would have to see the blue leather in person to make a judgement!

I think the price of the 996's is getting out of hand it was only a couple of years ago that Carrera would have been about £8-9k! I do love a 996 though

When was that? They've just dropped to that sort of price.

I noticed some nice porsches were in nice price brackets now. It's the thought of if they went wrong that bothers me.

That's mine above, basically the same as the one you're looking at.
Paid £13k privately last year. Have a look inside the front bumper at the radiators as damp leaves get stuck in the bumper and can damage the radiators.
Lovely cars to drive, everything's so tight still no squeaks or rattles

Yeah true, but I never take them Plus I hate the old sit on claim line for 2 hours, log claim, pay out of own pocket, wait 2 months for refund routine.

Might just be the colour, but to me that looks pretty boring for a Porsche.

My mate got a Leon FR from a garage who sold him a so called "great" warranty and they have just fucked him over. Car needed a new steering rack and they weren't prepared to foot the £750 bill just for the rack from Seat. They paid for a £350 rack from ECP and only put £72 towards the labour costs. Then he needed to buy a modified loom and some other stuff and is about £500 out of pocket.

They were called before the work was even started. They were told all that was needed and how much it was going to cost and they point blank refused to cough up for the genuine parts.

When I was looking a couple of years back shitters could be had for £5k and 8-9k got you a reasonable example of a poverty spec Carrera... I nearly puled the trigger on a £10k Carrera 4 soft-top, it was straight too!

Fair enough, only said that because I know they're assholes if you don't call first and log it with them. They can be more trouble than they're worth, which is why I usually wouldn't bother.

I think you mean 986 tbh.

996 have only recently dropped below 10. A 4 softtop won't be unless it was cat A with 200k miles.

Advert mentions the main things you'd be looking for then buying a Porsche of that age. Check through the history and find the receipt for when the seals were done to see if they mention the condition of the clutch - it should be fine at that milage though. If you go to see it, see if the suspension squeaks at low speeds when going over bumps as that would indicate the bushes are worn and cost a bit to replace. Also at that age, the anti-roll bar drop links and bushes can get a bit slack and rattle at low speed.

Guy at work has a Boxter S. He's had it for about 8 years and I asked him about its reliability, he said for the first few years he paid £1000 a year for a service package from Porsche...and that it more than paid for itself with the work the car had to have done in that time Bugger that.
