Probably a sore subject on here due to all the "hair dressing comments" and my marigolds etc, but I know a few of you have one or at least had one at some stage. Before you say anything I am ready to buy one, I've already looked a Honda S2k, as nice as they are, i'm not prepared to pay the Ł480 road tax , also looked at a 02 plate Audi TT 1.8 (225bhp) needed a few things doing and the salesman wasn't prepared to do it, one of those things were the LCD display on the dash, it was missing pixels lets just say, so I walked away from that. So my next convertible to look at, will be 2007-2011 VW Eos'. Had a VW before did me well for the years I had it, so would have another one. Just wondering what other convertibles are out there either softop or hardtop? Not fancying the Z3 or Z4, not a BMW fan tbh.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a mk1 mx5 and love it. Don't think it really fits in with the cars you've been looking at but as a low sitting, rwd, cheap, two seater convertible it's awesome. Four wheel alignment and new tyres and you can chuck into corners with full confidence you'll come out the other side.

Didn't think about MX5.

Bought one as I thought why not, be fun to try but it wasn't for me, I had a Z4, dad had a 330 convert and I didn't mind that.

Was going to say just look at another TT.
Can you not get a slightly older S2K to dodge the expensive tax?

I've had some, they're slower, less rigid, less fuel efficient and noisier than the cars they're based on so only buy it if you're going to make use of it.
Folding hard tops such as the EOS will eventually break and leave you looking a nob with a half-folded car.
Soft tops are in my opinion the better choice but see how you feel about each individual car.
Tax is easily solved, find an older one. That will rule out a few but its worth doing the homework on it so as not to be spending too much. Lots of choice although now is not really the time to buy as they'll be flying out. I'd be tempted to leave it a few months and see if anyone is keener.
Above all, make sure you're going to use it.

Is this just the biased opinion of a guy who prefers soft tops or is it actual fact that folding tops don't last?
I know that the more complex the construction the more it's likely to go wrong, but is it honestly that bad?
Want a convertible at some point, but fabric roofs just look absolutely gash when they're folded up. Always looks like a tent on top of a car.
From the soft top owners on here, relatively small sample size as it might be, it looks like replacing fabric roofs is a fairly common (and expensive) exercise for older cars.
I'd imagine that folding roofs are better suited for an all year car as well?

Boxsters are fantastic drivers cars. Lot's of torque, shed loads of mechanical grip, fantastic cornering abilities, nice noise when it revs over 4k. The list could go on
(I'm going to be selling my Boxster at the end of the month...)

I love convertibles, will always try and opt for one.
True about the noise, but my E46 was practically silent. Also it wasnt wobbly either, neither was the Z3. The E36 however was all of those things
Get one, but get one worth driving Nathy. EOS are a bit lame. The advantage with taking the lid off is you can hear the exhaust and intake, makes for an addictive pastime.
Also I can highly recommend driving at night with the roof down. It is 100% better than on a sunny day

drove an EOS and it was awful - very heavy car
our 1 series convertible is very good, quiet and comfotable but is less rigid than the hatchback it replaced
The biggest difference is the feeling of weight, convertibles always feel so much heavier than the hard top versions

Yes I know there are other TT's out there, but they are either over priced or shit boxes, and I'm not that keen on the new shape.
and also Porsche are out the question too, don't like them either.
