I've just bought a e36 BMW which MOT expired 2 months ago; had a bust radiator but not sure what else it would need for an MOT. But came with a plate which is what I wanted. Is there anyway I can get the plate off without getting it MOT'd?

Yes as long as the tax ran out less than a 12 months ago. Should explain it in the forms you fill in

Im pretty certain the car needs to have an MOT in order to be able to remove the plate.

You got a buyer for it? Not massively desirable unless you have someone.

I don't see how it resembles Hurst much, but I've never understood the need for 80% of these plates anyway

Just given a quick lunchtime wash and booked in for an MOT later this week. Only think I can see obviously wrong is a leak from the Radiator but will put it in and see if its worth replacing as if not will scrap it (but seems to good for that!)
Few more pics
Bit of rear arch damage but they are still solid!

I think you're living in a dream land if you think you'll make any money out of that plate.. You need to get it into retention first which a) requires the expense of getting the bag of shit MOT'd and b) will cost £105 in DVLA fee's so to make it even worth while bothering with you need to make at least £105 + MOT cost + Repair costs.. Which is going to be in the £200+ region. I doubt there are many people who will give £200 for a pretty much bog standard number plate unless they happen to be called Mr H17UST?

I dont want to make money out of it; I want it!
£275 was for the car with the plate so if I just get that back for the car once the plates on my car I'll be happy

Also the MOT elapsed in the past 6 months and the car owner hasnt changed nor cashed in the tax so can get the plate off without an MOT; just if I can get one with little effort will make the car saleable and the transfer easier

Not quite that bad but seriously just go and hang-around outside your local ELV centre and wait for someone to drag one in.. They'll bite your arm off for the £80-100 they are going to see scrap as CASH..
You can't really deny that a 20+ year old battered 323 with no MOT is worth nothing more than scrap money.
If the plate was something catchy I'd understand but it isn't

...Just thought I'd add I'm in a similar predicament with my misses car.. She's got a 06 plate C-class compact that I sourced for peanuts but its got a private plate on it, I'd love to f**k it off as it means nothing to us but it costs money to get rid of the crap.
